HARNESS-STRAP ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 304,979, dated September 9, 1884-. Application filed March 21,188 (N0 model.)
If) all -1071,0121, it may c0nccrn- Be it known that I, THEODORE S. VERY, of Boston, in thezcounty of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in Harness-Strap Attachments, of i which the following is a specification.
This invention consists in an improved device for connecting the short diagonal straps whichare secured to the breeching of a harness with the hip-strap which supports the breeching; and it has for its object to provide a neat and convenient device adapted to be easily applied and removed, and obviating certain objections to the common means for connecting said parts, as I will now proceed to describe.
Of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents a side view of a portion of a harnessprovided with my improvement. Figs. 2 and 3 represent a front and a rear view of the connecting device. Fig. 4 represents a sect-ion on line as m, Fig. 3. In the drawings, a represents the breech 1) represents the hip-strap, which supports the breeching, and c 0 represent the short straps which connect the breeching with the hip-strap. 6 represents a plate provided at its back with means for attachment to the hip-strap b, and provided in its lower portion with eyes 0 0, adapted to receive the upper ends of the straps c c, the entire plate, including the portion having the eyes 0 0, being outside of that portion of the hip-strap which is attached to and projects .below the plate 6, so that the straps c c vir- "a plate, 3, pivoted at 4 4 to said flanges, and
provided with a stud, 5 adapted to enter one of the orifices in the hip-strap when the plate 3 is turned to a position parallel with the plate 6, as shown in full lines in Fig. 4. The plate 3 is provided with a catch, 6, of any suitable construction (here shown as a sliding pin) adapted to lock the plate 3 to a cross- Fig. 4, thus withdrawing the stud 5 from the hip-strap.
It is obvious that the stud 5 may be formed on the plate 6, in which case the office of the plate 3 would be simply to hold the hip-strap upon the stud. Various other changes of de tail may be accomplished without altering the essential features of my invention. Thelower portion of the plate e has two eyes or orifices, o 0, which receive the upper ends of the-straps c c, as shown in Fig. 1, the straps being in this instance formed with loops at their upper ends passed through the eyes 0 0.
It will be seen that the described device is neat, and may be made as ornamental as may be desired.
I prefer to make the plate of metal, and give it a polished outer surface, thereby giving it a very ornamental effect.
This device may be adapted to other parts of harnesses, if desired.
I claim- 1. The improved harness-strap attachment or connecting device, composed of a plate, 0, having eyes 0 0, to receive the straps c c, and provided at its rear side with means, substantiallyas described, whereby it may besecured to the front or outer side of a strap, 1), the plate and its eyes 0 0 being outside of the strap b, whereby said strap is prevented from projecting at its lower end outside of the plate 0 and straps'c 0, as set forth.
2. The plate 6, having strapreceiving eyes 0 0 at its lower end, and at its rear side the strap-holding socket, and the pivoted plate 3, having a stud, 5, adapted to engage with the strap in said socket, as set forth.
