SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent 1 10. 304,800, dated September 9, 1884.

Be it known that I, CHARLES O. COOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oswego, in the county of Oswego and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bung'Extractors, of which the following is a specification, reference be ing had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to a device for extracting bungs from barrels and tasks, and it has for its object to provide a device of this character whereby bungs may be extracted with ease and facility, and, further, to provide a device for this purpose of simple, cheap, and durable construction.

The invention consists in the improved construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a bung-extractor constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a modification.

In the accompanying drawings, in which like letters refer to corresponding parts in both the figures, A represents a disk or plate, having suitable supports or legs, a, the same being adapted to rest upon a barrel and occupy a position directly over the bung to be extracted. I This disk or plate A is provided with a screw-threaded perforation or open ing, B, in which works the bungextractor C.

The extractor C consists of the upper screwthreaded portion, 0, having a suitable handle, 0, for turning the same, projecting from the upper end thereof. The lower end of the screw-threaded portion is provided with an extension,d, which is screwthreaded,as shown, and is adapted to enter the bung for the withdrawal of the same. This lower screw-threaded extension may be formed integral with the The operation is as-follows:

center portion, 0,- or the said center portion may have an opening or hole upon its lower end to receive the end'of this extension,which may besecured therein by means of a transverse bolt passing through orifices in the parts, as shown, or other suitable fastening.

The screwthreaded disk having the supporting-legs is placed upon the barrel directly over the bung to be extracted. The bung-extractor C is then placed in the screw-threaded opening thereof and turned, thus causing the screw-threaded portion d to enter the bung,'which may then be withdrawn by means of the handle c,which also lifts the stand in which the extractor Works from the barrel.

From the foregoing description it will be apparent that my improved bung-extractor is simple in itsconstruction, and that it affords ready and efficient means for withdrawing bungs from barrels.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a bung-extractor, the combination, with a plate having a screw-threaded opening and suitable supporting-legs, of an extractor consisting of a central screwthreaded portion, a suitable handle having a recessed extension at its lower end, and a screw-threaded portion adapted to be secured therein by means of a transverse bolt, substantially as set forth.
