T allee/1,0m t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM C. CURRAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Opener; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful v combination implement.
As an object of the invention, it is the aim topi-Ovide an article, such as a key, which is in common use embodied with a plurality of devices, such as a button-hook, an opener for a mineral water bottle, a file for manicuring or a match striker and a screw dlriver including a small tack extracting c aw.
Another object of the invention is the convenience and readiness with which the devices may be carried by a key blank.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth,'shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure l is a view in perspective of the key blank, showing the same provided with a plurality of devices as narrated above. Fig. 2 is an edge view showing the mineral bottle opener in position to extract the cork. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3 3 of Fig. l, showing clearly how the mineral bottle openers are constructed and forming a part of the key handle. Fig. 4 is a view showing the implement used another way for extracting a cork. Fig. 5 is a detail view showing another form of cork being extracted. Fig. 6 shows a bottle cap as being lifted. Fig. 7 is Y a view showing the opening tool used for extracting a staple or the like adjacent the edge of a board or a similar support.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, l designates a key blank, which may be filed to construct a key. This blank 1 forms an integral part of the key shank 2, one end of which terminates in Hat sides 3,
which taper or merge together at the extreme end 4 of the shank to form a screw engaging means 5, provided with a notch 6, adapted for use in extracting small tacks Specification of Letters Patent.

and the like. The other end of the shank terminates in a handle 7, substantially of the usual construction, with the exception that the metal intermediate the usual opening 8 of the handle is constructed to form mineral bottle openers 9, which extend outwardly from opposite sides of the handle for a portion of their length, and then in oppo-` site directions and parallel with each other and with the handle, in such wise as to enable one or the other to be embedded in the cork, when by allowing the shank to engage the edge of the bottleyabout the opening thereof as a fulcrum, the cork may be extracted, as shown in Fig. 2. The reverse of this action may be enacted, for instance, one of the prongs or bottle openers may be embedded in the cork, and the handle allowed to engage the periphery of the bottle opening, in order to extract the cork, as shown in Fig. 4. Projecting from one edge of the handle is a button-hook 12, while on the shank intermediate the key blank and the handle a roughened surface 14, such as a ile or the like is provided,` which not only may be used in manicuring, but as means upon which a match may be struck.
In Fig. 7 the tool is designed to be used as a staple extractor for extracting a staple or the like adjacent the edge of a board or other support. For instance, the tool may be arranged so that one of the prongs 9 may be used for first starting the extraction of a staple, sufficiently to permit the staple to enter through the opening of the enlargement and loop over the opposite prongs.
. Then by fulcruming the handle on the edge of a board the staple will be easily extracted.
From the foregoing it is apparent that there has been devised an improved, simple and efficient combination implement, and one which has been found desirable and practical, owing to the convenience and readiness of the very necessary articles or devices.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is An opening tool comprising a handle having an enlargement provided with an elongated transversely disposed opening, said enlargement upon directly opposite sides having tapering prongs extending from and oiset from opposite sides of the enlaigenaine to this specifica-tion in the presence of ment and protruding in opposite directions, two subscribing Witnesses. said pronUs being disposed in parallelism s s With one tnother and said handle, and in WH'LIAM (J' N p conjunction with the handle constituting an llitnesses: opener. ln testimony whereof I have signed my LEE N. LAMB.
