No. 2,504) Claims priority, application Great Britain Feb. 6, 1959 2 Claims. (Cl. 296-56) This invention relates to holders for lipsticks and like cosmetics. j
The invention accordingly consists in a holder for lipsticks and like cosmetics including a tubular member, a sleeve member slidable within the tubular member, and a cup-shaped element located within the sleeve member, containing a stick of lipstick or other cosmetic and relatively fixed to the tubular member, whereby the sleeve may be moved to and fro over the stick and cup element to expose the stick for use or to cover said stick, the cup-shaped element being detachably fitted to the tubular member by means of a tongue provided on the cup element engaging with an L-shaped slot formed in the open end of the tubular member. Thus, by providing in association with a single holder a series of cup elements with lipsticks or other cosmetics of different colours, and with or without sleeve members, changes can readily be made from one colour to another.
A longitudinal slot is provided in the sleeve member for the tongue to hold and guide the cup element within the sleeve during the axial sliding of the latter within the tubular member.
The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings which shows one constructional form of the improved cosmetic stick holder.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is an exploded view showing the essential parts of an improved lipstick or like cosmetic holder according to the invention; and
FIGURE 2 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the assembled holder.
Referring to the drawing, the holder comprises a tubular member 1 closed at its lower end and in which is slidably arranged a sleeve member 2 having within it a cup-shaped element 3 in which is fitted a stick 4 of cosmetic. The cup element 3 with stick 4, is relatively fixed to the tubular member by means of a pressed out tongue 5 provided on the cup element 3 and engaging in a cut-out L-shaped slot 6 formed in the upper open end of the tubular member 1. A longitudinal slot 7 is provided in the sleeve 2 for the tongue 5, to hold and guide the cup element 3 within the sleeve during the axial sliding of the latter within the member 1 to expose the stick or to cover it. The lower part of the sleeve 2 may be furnished with a plurality of inwardly directed projections such as 12 which prevent the cup 3 from accidentally sliding out of the sleeve 2 When the sleeve is drawn to the top of the tubular member 1.
To serve as a casing enclosing the cosmetic stick, the tubular member 1 is furnished with a co-acting cover 9 adapted topass over the sleeve 2 and to engage slidably with the upper part of the tubular member. In order to limit the extent to which the cover 9'slides over the upper part of the member 1, the tubular member 1 is slid into a tubular casing 10 having an internal diameter slightly exceeding that of the member 1 and a length less than that of the member 1 whereby the upper part thereof will project from the casing 10 and form a shoul dered extension on which the cover 9 can slide. The upper end of the cover 9 is closed and may be of any distinctive shape. A plurality of outwardly directed projections ll are provided on the upper part of the member 1 forming the shouldered extension, to secure a greater adhesion between the tubular member and the cover 9.
Various modifications may be made to the invention, for example, the improved holder may be made to receive lipsticks or other cosmetic sticks of any texture and dimensions desired.
I claim:
1. A holder for cosmetic sticks, such as lipsticks, comprising a tubular member having an open end and an L-shaped slot formed at the said open end, a sleeve having a longitudinal slot extending from one end thereof to a point adjacent the other end thereof, said sleeve being slidably received within the tubular member with the said other end protruding therefrom, a cup-shaped holder and a cosmetic stick held in said holder, said holder having I a tongue pressed out and projecting therefrom, passing through the longitudinal slot in the sleeve and co-operating with the L-shaped slot to engage therein and detachably retain the holder and cosmetic stick in substantially fixed relation to the tubular member while allowing the sleeve to be slid axially relative to the tubular member to cover or expose the cosmetic stick as required.
2. A holder for cosmetic sticks as claimed in claim 1, wherein one end of the sleeve is formed with projections which engage with the cup-shaped holder and prevent withdrawal of the sleeve from the tubular member, and also prevent the cup-shaped holder from falling out of the said one end of the sleeve during assembly of the sleeve and cup-shaped holder in the tubular member.
