VICTORIA A. BURR, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
GLOVE-FASTEN NG.
ZBECZI'EICATION forming part; of Letters Patent No. 303,601, dated August 12, 1884.
Application filed July 1, 1884. (No model.)
flo @ZZ wir/0m t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, VICTORIA A. BURR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Glove-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the fastening of gloves at the wrist by means of hooks, preferably two rows of hooks, and a cord or other analogous articles.
The object of my invention is to remove the objection which now exists to the practical use of this class of fastenings from the constant entanglement lof threaded, fringed, orlace goods usually worn or handled by ladies. This annoyance I remove entirely by attaching to t-he glove a roll or rolls of kid or other leather or material in the form of a cord or like elevation adjacent to the points of the hooks, as shown in the drawings.
Figure l represents the wrist of a glove with the fastening nowin use. A is a view of one of the metallic hooks. Fig. 2 represents the same glove fastened to the Wrist of the wearer with my improved fastener. B is a view of one of the hooks, with a section of the roll or cord adjacent to the point of the hook.
The glove is fastened by passing the cord C around the several hooks. The roll or cord D, which is attached to the glove by sewing or otherwise, yields as the cord C is pressed within the hooks, and closes the gap after the cord is passed through, so that the hooks are no longer liable to entanglement with other parts of the dress, or with threaded material that is handled. Praelicallyonly that part of the roll or cord D is necessary which lies immediately in front of the hook, so that as a substitute for the said roll or cord a small section of the same, or a little ball of leather, cloth, or other elastic material, could be used for each hook, or a earefullyadj usted metallic spring might be used for each hook, by either of which .substitutes the long roll might be dispensed with; but I apprehend that nothing would be more simple and practicable than the roll or cord arranged longitudinally, which I have above described as adjacent to the point of the hook and rising even with or a little higher than the point.
I do not claim the hook, which is an old device; but
\Vl1at I do claim as my invention is- 1. An improved article of manufacture consisting of a glove having a series of hook-fasteners and a yielding cord or other suitable raised longitudinal strip applied to the glove directly in front of the hook-openings, thus covering the point of the hook, and adapted to yield so as to admit the lacing-cord into the hook, all substantially as set forth.
2. In a glove or other manufactured article, the combination, with the lacing-hooks, of a yielding cord or its equivalent arranged infront of the hook or hooks, and closely adjacent to the hook-points, all substantially as and for the purpose stated.
