Description
(N0 Model.)
LAGING HOOK.
' Ne. 254,848. Patented Feu 28,1882.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.'
EDOUARD ).ILEQUIN, OF KENSICO, NEV YORK.Y
LA'ClNG-HOOK.
' SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,343, dated February 28, 1882.
Application filed November 10, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, EDOUARD C. LEQUIN, of Kensico, in the county of Westchester and State of NewYork, have invented acertain new and useful Improvement in Lacing-Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
rIhe invention consists in a lacing-hook provided with a projecting pin or needle point on the inside ot' the shank, adapted to prevent retraction of the lacing-cord. The shank may be provided on the inner side with a projection, in which the said pin is fixed'. The lacing-hook is frequently applied to shoes, gloves, and other articles of apparel,to enable the same to be secured by means of a lacing passed around the hooks under the heads.
The invention consists in a lacing-hook havinga pin or needle point projecting from its shank entirely behind or back of the head, the said pin or needle point being preferably of such a length that it will not project at all beyond the edge of the head, but will be entirely within theoutlineofand sheathed by said head.
When these hooks are applied to a glove or shoe which is to be laced they are arranged so that the pin or needle points will project in the direction opposite to that in which the lacing is introduced, so that any tendency of the lace to slip back would cause the pin or needle point to penetrate it.
The accompanying drawings are made on an enlargedscale for the sake of clearly illustrating the invention.
Figure l represents a plan of a hook einbodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a horizontal section below the head and through the shank. Fig. 3 represents a side view, and Fig. 4 represents a portion of a glove-wrist secured by these hooks and lace.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates the base or foot, B the shank,
' and O the head,of a hook embodying my invention. In the hook here shown the head O projects entirely on one side of the shank.
The hook may be attached to the exterior of the article on which it is to be used by rivet- (No model.)
ing it, or in any other suitable manner. In the present example of the invention the foot or base A has holes a., through which a sewingthread may be inserted.
The shank B is thicker on one edge than on the other, as seen clearly in Fig. 2, thus forming a projection, b, and c designates a small needle or pin point, which is inserted in this projection and stands out so that its point is considerably away from the shank on the side toward which the needle or pin point projects. In lacing, the lace is passed round the Shanks ot' the hooks under the heads, and it will be seen that while the needle-points will prevent a lace from being pulled in one direction because ofthe point entering the lace they permit the lace to be drawn freely in the other direction.
D designates the wrist of a giove secured by my hooks and a lace, d, which is secured at the inner end, and is then laced back and forth around the hooks toward the other. The hooks may be arranged opposite each other or alternately in two rows, and the needle-points c of all pointin the direction of the lacing. In the drawings this is upward. l
It will be seen that the lace can be drawn forward to tighten the glove without opposition; but the first backward movement or slip causes the point c to enter the lace and prevents the lace from slipping backward to any extent.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The lacing-hook provided with a projecting pin or needle point on the inside of the shank, adapted to prevent retraction of the lacing-cord, substantially as specified.
2. The lacing-hook having the projection b on the inside of its shank, and the pin or needle point ciixed in said projection, and adapted to prevent retraction ot' the lacing-cord, substantially as specified. f
