SHOE-FASTENING.

To all whom "it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES M. PERKINS, a citizen of'the United States, residing at Grimes, in the county of Roger Mills and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Fastenings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to improvements in shoe fastening devices, and more particularly one employing a lace passed through eyelets on the shoe upper and carrying loose hook members which have finger pieces whereby the hook members may be readily engaged with and disengaged from the lace eyelets on the shoe upper.

The object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical and effective fastening device of this character which may be used on shoes, slippers, leggings, gloves, belts, corsets, etc.

With the above and other objects in View, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a View illustrating the application of the invention to a shoe upper; Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal section; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of the fastener.

Referring more particularly to the draw ing 1 and 2 denote the two side portions of a shoe upper or analogous device to which my invention is applied, and 3 denotes the tongue which is arranged beneath the usual eyelets 3 for the lace 4:. These eyelets 3 are arranged in rows along the side edges of the two parts or members 1, 2, and the lace A is passed through the eyelets from one part to the other.

My invention comprises a series of hook members 5 which have eyelet portions 6 loosely arranged on the loop, and which also have finger pieces 7, the hooks 5 being adapted to engage the uppermost eyelets 3 on one of the parts. As illustrated, the finger pieces 7 are in the form of tabs arranged on the eyelets 6, which latter are made of metal and have the hooks 5 formed integral with them, as clearly shown in the drawing. ter may be readily grasped when it is desired to insert the hooks in or remove them from the eyelets 3. Owing to this peculiar construction it will be seen that when the hooks 5 are engaged with the eyelets 3, the eyelets 6 will press the lace 4 against the part 2 and thereby prevent the slipping or loosening of the lace.

In using the invention, when it is desired to unfasten the shoe, slipper, glove, legging, belt, corset or other object towhich the invention is applied, the uppermost hook member is first loosened and pulled outwardly to slacken the upper end of the lace, and the succeeding hook members are then successively loosened and each time pulled outwardly to slacken the lace. Any number of the fasteners may be provided and after all of them have been loosened the two parts or members 1, 2, may be readily separated and the lace may be loosened in the eyelets 3, on the lower portions of said parts or members. When it is desired to close the fastening the lace is first drawn through the lower eyelets 3 and the hook members are then successively engaged with the upper eyelets in the part 2, and the upper extremity of the lace is drawn tight so that the eyelet portions 6 of the several hook members will bind the lace and prevent it from slipping.

The tongue 3 is preferably secured to the part 1, as shown at 3*, so that the tongue can not slip from beneath the hooks 5 when the latter are engaged with the eyelets 3.

Having thus described the invention,what is claimed is:

The combination of two members provided with rows of eyelets, a lace arranged in one row of said eyelets, and hook members each consisting of a metal eyelet, a transversely arranged hook formed integral with said metal eyelet and adapted to engage the other row of said eyelets, and a finger tab sur rounding the eyelet of the hook member and projecting laterally therefrom in a direction opposite to said hook the lace also passing through the eyelets of the hook members, as and for the purpose specified.
