Description

May 15, 1962 o. w. PETERSON BOW-TIE Filed Dec. 23, 1960 II. -I,
3,034,134 now-"rm Otto W. Peterson, Bertrand, Nebr. Filed Dec. 23, 1960, Ser. No. 78,136 1 Claim. (Cl. 2l51) This invention relates to a bow-tie and attaching means for detachably fitting with the collar of a shirt.
An object of the invention is to devise an attaching means to which the bow-tie is fitted that will readily adjust to various sizes of collars, and readily conform to the shape of the neck of the wearer.
A further object is to devise an attaching means by which a fabric bow-tie may be secured and to maintain a central position therewith.
A further object is to secure the bow-tie with the attaching means without being sewn thereto or by metal fastenings or by adhesives.
In common use there are bow-ties adapted to be attached to the collars where studs are in use to connect the ends of the collars, also buttons are in use for the same purposes, with metal attaching means, an object of my device is to eliminate all metal parts, and substitute therefor a plastic resilient neck band that will readily slip under the collar portion of the shirt, split inthe rear porg tion and the ends overlapping to readily conform to the size of the neck of the wearer.
In the accompanying drawings which form part of this application;
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the bow-tie and the attaching neck band;
FIGURE 2 is a fragmental portion of the attaching neck band showing a slit for making connection of the bow-tie and the neck band;
FIGURE 3 is a fragmental portion of the neck band, bow-tie and attaching band;
FIGURE 4 is an elev-ational view of the attaching band, and
FIGURE 5 is a vertical sectional view on lines x-x FIGURE 3.
Like letters of reference are used throughout the specification and drawings to designate corresponding parts.
Patented May 1 5, 1 962 A designates a transparent and resilient neck band, split and with overlapping ends in the rear portion and adapted to expand or contract accordingly with the size and the shape of the neck of the wearer.
Formed through and in the front portion of the neck band A, is a laterally extending slit B, through which the rolled ends b-b of the attaching band D may be inserted.
The attaching band D comprises a strip of fabric preferably of the same material as the bow-tie is composed, and having the ends bb rolled into a'permanent form either by an adhesive or other forming means.
The attaching band D is adapted to engage over and around the bow-tie C and theneck band A whereby the rolled ends bb may be inserted through the slit B, to
secure andretain the bow-tie C in a set position with theneck band A.
The bow-tie C may be formed and secured to the neck band in combination with the slit B, or by being stitched or by various means of attachment without deviating from the nature of my invention.
Having described my invention what is claimed as new 1s:
A bow-tie and attaching means comprising in combination a circular resilient neck band, said neck band being split, the split ends overlapping to provide expansion and contraction thereof, a slit formed in the said neck band, said slit being positioned diametrically opposite the split ends of said neck band, a fabric bow-tie secured to said neck band, a fabric fastening band surrounding the said bow-tie, said band having rolled ends, the said rolled ends of said band inserted into the said slit in the said neck band to secure said bow-tie with the said neck band.
