WILLIAM w. EDMONDS, or FENWIOK, MICHIGAN.
STEELYARD.
F3PEGIFICA'IION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,133, dated August-.5, 1884.
Application filed February 23, 1884.
back against a wall or other support out of the.
way when not in use, and be brought readily and conveniently into position for use when required, as more fully hereinafter specified. These objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view showing my inVentiOn opened out and ready for use; and Fig. 2 represents the same folded back against a wall or support, out of the way; Fig,
3, a detail perspective of the portion of the bracket from which the lug projects.
A indicates a bracket hinged or pivoted to suitable supports, B, which are secured to a wallor other similar support in any convenient manner. The upper support, B, is formed with three recesses or depressions, C, and the bracket with a lug, D, which is adapted to set in one of the recesses and hold the bracket in position when open or closed, the bracket be ing capable of rising and falling slightly upon its'pintles for the purpose. The outer end of the bracket is provided with a slot, E, in which is hung the supporting-hook F of the yard proper, F. This yard is of the ordinary description, and is provided with the usual sliding weights and scale. 7
G indicates an arm pivoted to the forward end of the bracket, and adapted to swing di rectly over it or at right angles to it, as shown, respectively, in the figures of the drawings. The said arm, at its forward end, is provided with a dependent support, H, for the end of the long arm of the yard. The short arm of the yard is provided with the usual hook, I, to which is attached a frame, K, having pivoted to it a platform, L, upon which the articles to be weighed may be placed. The said platform is so arranged that it may swing into a vertical position, so as to sit fiat against the wall when the device is folded, or be thrown into a horizontal position when the device is swung out into position for use. When in (No model.)
such position, it is held by means of a suitable hook, N, which is pivoted to the platform, and
can be fastened in a loop, 0, at the frame at one side. The frame K is also provided with a strengthening-brace, P.
When the device is folded, it is held against the wall by pins or screw-eyes It, capable of being turned, the one securing the scale-plat formbeing removed and inserted through a hole, S, in the said platform, and screwed into the wall to hold it. L-shaped pins" may be used in place of screw-eyes.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. In combination with the steelyard-beam, the swinging bracket pivoted to suitable supports'adapted to be secured to a wall or other support, the upper support being recessed, as described, and the bracket provided with a lug to enter said recesses, and with a slot to hold the yard-beam, all the parts being an ranged to operate substantially as described.
2. In combination with a swinging. bracket having one of its pivotal supports notched for the reception of a lug on the said bracket, a yard-arm hung therefrom and provided with weighing devices, and an arm pivoted to the bracket and having at its free end a guide for supporting the long end of the yard, substantially as specified.
3. In combination with the swinging bracket and steelyard supported therefrom, the piv oted platform hung in a frame secured to the short end of the yard, and provided with a hook which normally secures it in a horizontal position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
a. The combination, with the swinging bracket, of the steelyard, and hung from one end thereof, the pivoted arm on the bracket, and provided with a guiding-support for the yard, the pivoted platform hung from the short end of the yard, the supports attached to a wall or other place, one of the said supports being notched to receive a lug on the bracket, and the securing-pins located in the wall or other support, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
