(Cl. 12S-288) This invention relates to wearing apparel designed primarily for the comfort and protection of the wearer, for convenience including of application and removal, for appearance, and for suitability for a particular use to which it is placed.

The invention relates especially to apparel worn by infants and younger children and designed for minimum changing of the garment covering the upper portion of the body and more frequent changing of the portion which covers the lower portion of the body and intended to provide maximum protection and maximum utility.

In the clothing of an infant it has been customary to provide a shirt and a diaper and to fasten them together With safety pins with frequent changing of the diapers and less frequent changing of the shirts. Also to retain the moisture discharged by the infant within the diaper area a waterproof diaper covering has been used with the result that the infants body frequently became soaked making it necessary to change the shirt and bathe the infants body, and when only the lower end of the shirt was wet to change only the diaper, which sometimes resulted in the infants body becoming irritated as well as leaving odor from the wetting.

It is an object of the invention to provide apparel for an infant including a shirt, a diaper, and a diaper cover, with a waterproof covering for the lower end of the shirt, and the parts fastened together by snap fasteners, the shirt being of the overlap variety with the overlapped portions fastened together by detachable snap fasteners, the diaper also being fastened by means of a character which will not cause injury to the wearer or to the one caring for the infant, and with a protective covering for the diaper which covering extends beneath the crotch, is open along but detachably fastened together at the sides and at the upper portion of the front and back to the shirt by means of detachable snap fasteners so that the lower portion of the shirt will not be wet and require the shirt to be changed when the diaper is changed and such lower portion can be readily cleaned since it is non-absorbent and accordingly will not retain odor.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Briefly stated, the invention is a substantially form fitting shirt, diaper, diaper cover combination, the shirt being of the overlap type with detachable snap fasteners permitting ready fastening and unfastening and with the lower end portion of the shirt made moistureproof or provided with a relatively thin preferably transparent moistureproof covering, and with a diaper cover which fits the crotch and is open at the top and sides, and provided with detachable snap fasteners to facilitate attachment of the diaper cover to the shirt after the diaper is applied.

With continued reference to the drawing, a wraparound shirt is provided with detachable snap fasteners 11 by which such shirt may be fastened about the body of an infant or small child. The lower end portion 12 rice of the shirt is made moistureproof or is provided with a relatively thin preferably transparent moistureproof cover 13 attached by stitching 14, the upper edges of the cover 13 being protected by tape 15 in view of the fact that stitching can be had through the tape and might not hold satisfactorily if merely through the protective covering.

The ends of the moistureproof covering V13 are provided with a finishing braid or band 16 attached thereto by stitching 17 and such ends are turned inwardly as shown in FIG. 4 with the lower end portion of the shirt 12 in the position shown, and secured to such inturned portion by stitching 18.

In dressing the child, a shirt and a diaper 19 are applied, -the diaper being provided with detachable snap fasteners 20 at each side to secure it in place on the infant. In applying the shirt 10 and diaper 19 the protective cover 13 overlies the diaper and a waterproof diaper cover 21 is applied and fastened in place by means of detachable snap fasteners 22 extending through reinforcing bands 23 along the side edges of the diaper cover. The diaper cover has elastic bound openings 24 for accommodating the legs of the infant and the diaper cover is attached to the shirt 10 by means of detachable snap fasteners 25.

Accordingly a diaper, diaper cover, and shirt combination is provided by which the lower end of the shirt is protected with a moistureproof cover or is otherwise made waterproof and suchprotected lower end overlies the diaper so that moisture will not be transmitted by capillarity from the diaper along the shirt and the diaper cover will maintain the parts in assembled relation and protect against wetting of the attendant.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is illustrated in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the accompanying claims.

What is claimed is:

l. A shirt, diaper and diaper cover combination, said shirt comprising a wraparound garment having detachable snap fasteners for fastening it in place, a diaper having detachable snap fasteners for securing it in place and to the shirt, and a diaper cover of moistureproof material open at its sides and having elastic bound leg openings and detachable snap fasteners for fastening the parts of the diaper cover together at its open sides, the snap fasteners of said shirt, diaper, and diaper cover providing the sole securing means for maintaining them in place in assembled relation, a relatively thin wide band of moistureproof material providing a cover for and excluding water from contact with the lower end of said shirt, said band comprising a piece of waterproof material folded reversely upon itself with each of its edges provided with a protective tape and with stitching through said tape, protective band, and shirt, and fastening the parts together, the ends of said band being turned inwardly between the sides of said band and provided with a protective tape along the edges of the same.

2. A shirt, diaper, diaper cover combination having detachable snap fasteners providing the sole securing means for maintaining the parts connected, the lower end of the shirt being provided with a relatively thin moistureproof covering overlying the diaper and underlying the diaper cover.

3. The improvement in infant apparel comprising shin and diaper cover means having detachable fasteners for fastening them together, and a transparent moistureproof covering for the lower end of the shirt to prevent the same from becoming Wet.

4. The improvement in infant apparel comprising shirt and diaper cover means having detachable fasteners for fastening them together, and with the lower end of the shirt moistureproof to prevent the same from becoming Wet.

5. An infants shirt of knitted material and having a relatively wide moistureproof protective cover along its lower end portion, said shirt being adapted to be used With a diaper, and said protective cover functioning to prevent the latter from becoming wet from the diaper.

6. An infants shirt of knitted material and having a relatively Wide moistureproof protective cover along its 10 5 connecting said diaper cover to said shirt.
