y A Annlicatioxr filed August 14, 1883. (No specimens.)`
To /I/ZZ whom it 11i/ty concern:

The ligure of the drawing shows a pillow or cushion formed of our improved iilling, in perspective.
Our invention has for its object to provide y a new and efficient filling or `packing for upholstery and similar purposes, which shall possess greater elasticity and be more durable and cleanly than any article for similar uses heretofore employed or produced.
Our invention consists of alling or packing material composed of fine metallic wire curled in simiiitude of curled hair, or coiled and matted.v
In carrying our invention into'effect we produce fine metallic wire, using any .metal suitable for the purpose, preferably steel or brass,
such wire being drawn to.or about the diameter of horse-hair, such as is used in manufacture of curled filling for mattresses, &c. This Wire is curled in any suitable manner-as by coiling on a mandrel-and then matted or August, 1883.
tributes of curled hair, being, however, more elastic and durable than the latter.
The material may be used when alone as a packing orV combined with hair, moss, or any other kind of upholsterypacking, so as to increase the elasticity of the same, as well as to preserve this quality for an indefinite period.
What we claim as our invention is as fol- 1. The new article of manufacture herein described, consisting of fine wire or metallic hair curled and matted or bunched, substantially as and for the purposeset forth.
2. Metallichair curled and matted or bunched v and combined with animal hair, moss, or other material as a packing for upholstery purposes.
-In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 4th day of JOSEPH L. WELLS.q HENRY WESTON. Witnesses:
