  • the invention relates to the manufacture of shaped articles from viscose, and more particularly, regenerated cellulose filaments with a thick skin or consisting of skin. It is known that high-strength rayon yarns having addi tional excellent properties, which make them suitable, for instance, for the use in automobile tires, are obtained when the yarn consists of more than 50% skin.

The filaments emerging from this spinning bath were guided through a bath with 1% of H with a temperature of C., in which bath the filaments were stretched 85%.

6 tlliairns. ((11. 106-165) The invention relates to the manufacture of shaped articles from viscose, and more particularly, regenerated cellulose filaments with a thick skin or consisting of skin. It is known that high-strength rayon yarns having addi tional excellent properties, which make them suitable, for instance, for the use in automobile tires, are obtained when the yarn consists of more than 50% skin.
High-strength regenerated cellulose filaments of this type are usually obtained by extruding viscose into an aqueous sulfuric acid coagulating bath containing at least about 2% of zinc sulfate. Various additives, to be added to the viscose and/or to the spinning bath in critical amounts have been suggested to obtain thick-skinned or all-skin regenerated cellulose filaments or other shaped articles.
It is the object of the present invention to provide additives of this type which are fully reliable and which guar antee a flaw-less spinning process.
In accordance with this invention, this is accomplished by extruding the viscose into a sulfuric acid coagulating bath in the presence of at least 0.5 preferably about 1%, based on the weight of the cellulose, of a polyepoxyethane substituted fatty acid amide selected from the group consisting of cocoamide, hydrogenated tallow amide and red oil amide with the formula:
(CZILOMH wherein x+y= 5 to 30, and R is the fatty alkyl group.
The invention will be elucidated in the following examples, in which the following substances were tested:
Ethomid C/ Derived from cocoamide, x+y= 5 Ethomid C/: Derived from cocoamide, x|y=10 Ethomid C/ Derived from cocoamide, x+y=15 Ethomids are surface active agents.
Example 1 A viscose with 7% of cellulose and 6% of NaOH was extruded at an ammonium chloride number of 11.8 into a spinning bath with 9% H 18% of Na SO and 7% ZnSO at a temperature of C. The filaments emerging from this spinning bath were guided through a bath with 1% of H with a temperature of C., in which bath the filaments were stretched 85%.
In the presence of 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0%, respectively, of Ethomid C/ 15 in the viscose, calculated on the cellulose, filaments were obtained the cross sections of which Patented Jan. 9, 1962 consisted of skin. This is a division of application Serial No. 584,147, filed May 10, 1956, now abandoned, of which I was a joint inventor.
What I claim is:
1. The method of producing shaped bodies with a thick skin from viscose, comprising the step of extruding the viscose into a sulfuric acid coagulating bath containing at least 2% zinc sulfate in the presence of between 0.5% and about 2%, based on the Weight of the cellulose, of a polyepoxyethane substituted fatty acid amide selected from the group consisting of cocoamide, hydrogenated tallow amide and red oil amide with the formula:

1. THE METHOD OF PRODUCING SHAPED BODIES WITH A THICK SKIN FROM VISCOSE, COMPRISING THE STEP OF EXTRUDING THE VISCOSE INTO A SULFURIC ACID COAGULATING BATH CONTAINING AT LEAST 2% ZINC SULDATE IN THE PRESENCE OF BETWEN 0.5% AND ABOUT 2%, BASED ON THE WEIGHT OF THE CELLULOSE, OF A POLYEPOXYETHANE SUBSTITUTED FATTY ACID AMIDE SELECTED FROM THE GROUP CONSISTING OF COCOAMIDE, HYDROGENATED TALLOW AMIDE AND RED OIL AMIDE WITH THE FORMULA:
