S12- 309) This invention relates to a canister set assembly.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a canister set assembly wherein the canisters are slidably, pivotally and removably supported in a cabinet.
Another object of the invention is to provide la canister set assembly wherein the positions of the individual canisters in the cabinet are interchangeable.
A further object of the invention is to provide a canister set assembly that is compact in construction, simple and rugged in construction, and that can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring in detail to the drawings, in FIG. 1 a canister set assembly embodying my invention is shown and designated generally by the reference numeral 10. The assembly 10 comprises an elongated rectangular-shaped hollow, box-like cabinet or housing 12 formed of sheet metal. The cabinet consists of a top -wall 14, a Ibottom wall 16, a rear wall 18 and end walls 20, 20, the front of the cabinet being open. The rear and bottom walls are formed integrally, and the top wall is formed integrally with the end walls. The material of the bottom wall 16 along its front long edge is bent upwardly and then turned upon itself forming an upwardly extending flange 22. Flange 22 is disposed inwardly of the outer ends of the top and end walls. The material of the top wall 14 along its long front edge is turned upon itself and then bent downwardly forming a downwardly extending flange 24. Along its rear long edge, the top wall 14 is bent downwardly forming a flange 26 overlapping the top edge of the rear wall 18 and secured theretoy by spot welding. Along its front long edge, each end wall is turned inwardly upon itself forming a reinforced edge. The bottom end edge of each end wall 20 is turned inwardly forming a flange 30 overlapping the adjacent end edge of the bottom wall 16 and secured thereto by spot welding.
At each corner, the material of the bottom wall 16 is pressed outwardly forming feet 32 for supportingthe cabinet on a llat supporting surface. The rear wall 18 may be provided with keyhole openings 34 at the corners thereof `for removably supporting the cabinet on nails or the like protruding from a vertical supporting surface.
In accordance with the invention, a plurality of metal canisters eare removably mounted inside the cabinet or housing 12. Some of the canisters extend from the Ibottom wall to the top wall and others extend only part way. All of the canisters extend from the front to the rear of the cabinet. Furthermore, all ofthe canisters are removably mounted in the cabinet. The canisters are of various widths :and heights. For example, there are two long canisters, such as the canisters 40 and 42. These canisters are normally swingably mounted in the cabinet, but may be slidably inserted into and slidably removed from the cabinet. Each of the canisters 40 and 42 comprises a front wall 44, a rear wall 46, a bottom wall 48 and side ywalls 50. Each canister is open at the top. Front wall 44 extends -above the other walls and is for-med with an inwardly extending top llange 52 and side flanges 54 above the side walls. At its bottom end, the yfront wall is formed with a downwardly extending llange 56 inwardly of the outer surface thereof. A knob 58 serving as a handle is mounted on the outer surface of the front wall adjacent the top thereof. Indicia 60 may be placed on the outer surface of the canister in any suitable manner to identify the contents thereof. The upper halfof the front wall 44 may be corrugated to reinforce the wall `and to enhance the appearance thereof.
An adapter frame 62 is slidably ymounted in the cabinet and positioned in the bottom thereof. The frame 62 comprises a rectangular-shaped metal body having a top wa-ll 64, side walls `66, 66 and a bottom wall 68. The frame is open front and back. The rear portion of the bottom wall 68 slants upwardly as indicated at 70 in order to bring the rear of the bottom wall on a level with the top edge of the front flange 22 on the bottom wall 16 of the cabinet. The top wall 64 of the frame is formed with a downwardly extending ilange 72 along the fro-nt edge thereof. The top wall 64 off the frame serves as a shelf. The frame 62 is only half the height of the cabinet and extends from the front to the rear of the cabinet.
A pair of short low canisters 74 and 76 are shown, extending upwardly substantially half the height o-f the cabinet. These canisters 74 and 76 each consist of a lfront wall 78, a rear wall 80, side walls 82, 82 and a bottom wall 84. The front wall extends slightly above the other walls and is formed with an inwardly extending flange 86 at its top `and flanges 88, 88 at its sides adjacent the top. A knob 90 is secured -to the front wall on its outer surface adjacent the top thereof and serves as a handle. Indicia 92 is suitably placed on the outer surface of the fron-t wall for identifying the contents of the canister. These canisters 74 and 76 may be provided with a flanged cover 94 for sealing the canister, a cover being shown for the canister 74 only,
Another canister 96, wider than the other canisters, is shown and occupies a portion of the space in the cabinet. Canister 96 is equal in width to the width of the two canisters 74 and 76 and is of equal height so that canister 96 can be used interchangeably with the canisters 74 and 76 in arranging the canisters in the cabinet. The canister 96 -has a front wall 98, a rear wall 100, a bottom wall 102 and side walls 104, 104 and is open at the top. The front wall is formed with an inwardly extending ilan'ge 106 and side ilanges 108, 108 adjacent thereto. A knob 110 is mounted on the outside of the front wall adjacent the top thereof to serve as a handle. Indicia 112 is suitably placed on .the outer surface of the front wall for identifying the contents of the canister. The front wall may be formed with spaced corrugations -1-14 for reinforcing the wall and enhancing the appearance thereof. The canisters 74 and 76 may be slidably mounted on the .top wall 64 of the adapter frame 62 and the canister 96 mounted inside the frame. Selectively, the canisters 74 land 76 may be mounted inside the adapter frame 62 and the canister 96 mounted on the top wall of the adapter frame. Furthermore, the adapter frame 62 may be slid sidewise to Aany selected portion of the space inside the cabinet and the other canisters may be rearranged accordingly to ll up the space inside the cabinet, `as will be understood. When the long canisters y40 and 42 are in position, the bottom flanges 56 thereof interlock with the front flange 22 on the bottom wall of the cabinet. To remove a long canister, the front of the canister is lifted up to permit the ange 56 to clear the front ii-ange 22 on the bottom wall and the canister is then slid outwardly of the cabinet.
The slanting rear portion 70 of the bottom wall 68 of the adapter frame 62 holds, whichever canister is mounted inside the frame, upon a level keel with the top edge of the front flange 22 of the bottom wall 16 so that the canisters are always on a level keel.
In use, the canisters are tilled with the designated products and mounted in the cabinet 12. In mounting the long canisters 40 `and 42, the front flanges 56 thereof are lifted over the front ilange 22 of the cabinet. The canisters 74 and 76, for example, are inserted into the adapter frame 62 side by side, and the canister 96 is slid over the top of the adapter frame and is supported thereby. The adapter frame 62 with its supponted canisters may, however, be positioned at either end of the cabinet and the other canisters placed side by side at the other end of the cabinet.
The long canisters 40 and 42 may be tilted as shown in FIGS. l and 7 in order to open the top thereof to get at the contents. When in this tilted condition, the front ange 56 on the front wall 44 interlocks with the front flange 22 and the rear wall of the canister interlocks with the front top ange 24, as shown in FIG. 7, so that the canister is held against further displacement.
While I have illustrated `and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and that various changes Iand modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I olaim'as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A canister set assembly comprising a hollow box-like cabinet having top, bottom, rear and side walls and being open at the front, a downwardly extending flange along the front of the top wall, an upwardly extending flange along the front of the bottom wall, a hollow adapter frame slidably mounted in the space in said cabinet, said frame having a solid top wall, bottom and side walls and being open at the front and rear, a plurality of canisters mov-ably mounted in said adapter frame, on the solid top wall of said frame and at the sides thereof, in the cabinet, said `canisters each having a front wall, a rear wall, a bottom wall andside walls and being open at the top with a handle on the front wall, a downwardly extending lflange on the bottom end of each front wall of the side canisters, the canisters at the sides of the adapter frame in the cabinet being tiltably mounted, the bottom anges and rear walls of said canisters interlocking with the upwardly extending' flange and the downwardly extending ange, respectively, for holding the tiltable canisters in tilted condition, the bottom wall of the adapter frame having a rear raised portion extending to the plane of the top edge of the upwardly extending Vfront flange, on the bottom wallV of the cabinet, the can-isters in said adapter frame being raised at their inner ends to a level keel by means of said raised portion, the rear wall of the cabinet having keyhole openings for receiving fastening elements projecting from a vertical supporting surface whereby the cabinet may be removably supported on said surface.
