Be it known that I, JOSHUA SUMNER, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Gurtain-l-ling, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to curtain-rings, or that class of devices which are employed for hanging curtains upon their supporting rods or brackets; and the invention has for its object to provide such rings with loops or eyes which may be readily attached thereto, when desired, for the purpose of attaching the curtains to the same, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, Figurelis a perspective view of a curtain-ring having my improved loop or attachment. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, taken through the loop or fastening. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the improved spring loop or fastening detached, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views illustrating amodification.

The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.

Curtain-rings, when made of wo'od, as is usual1y the case, are generallyprovidcd with f screweyes, to which the curtains may be attachcd by sewing or otherwise. To screw these eyes into the rings when a large number of rings are to be thus furnished requires considerahle time and labor, which it is my aim, by my present invent-ion, to dispense with as much as possible.

To this end my invention may be, broadly stated, to consist of an automatic clasp having a latch or fastening device, and provided with an eye or ring, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

A in the drawings designates the curtainring, and B is the clasp, which. is constructof flexible elastic sheet metal, such as steel, brass, or the like. The central portion of this is bent so as to form a small loop or eye, 0, from which curved arms extend, so as to form a ring or loop, D, of suitable size to encircle the body of the curtain-ring. One of these arms, E, is provided at its end with a small U-shaped catch, F, and the other arm, G, has a tooth or latch, H, adapted to enter the said catch.

The operation of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings hereto annexed. The ring I) is sprung upon the body of the curtain-ring, where it is securely retained by means of the latch or fastening described. The ring may be sprung into position in a moments time,and may, when desired, be readily removed. 7

In Figs. 4 and 5 I have illustrated a modi heat-ion of my invention, which consists in making the ring or clasp B of wire, but retaining the essential features of construction which have been described above. For the U shaped catch, I substitute in this case a small ring or eye, I, and the tooth or latch H is made to project laterally from the curved arm, upon the end 011 which it is. formed. The operation is identical with that above described.

Instead of applying this invention to clasps for curtain rings, the curtain rings themselves may be constructed in the manner described, and they may then be clasped or adjusted directly upon the cornice-rod. This will simplify the entire device. The construction will remain precisely as described, thesole difference being in the size of the device.

I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States 1. The combination, with a curtain-ring, of a detachable ring or clasp having a loop or eye, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. r

2. A detachable ring or clasp for curtainrings, comprising a small loop or eye, curved arms extending from the same and adapted to encircle the body of the curtain-ring, and a suitable catch or fastening whereby the ends of said arms may be connected, substantially as set forth.

3. As an improvement in curtain-rings, the herein-described clasp, comprising the eye 0, curved arms 12 G, forming the ring D, and the catch F and tooth or latch II at the ends of said arms, as and for the purpose set forth.
