Filed Dec. 11, 1959, Ser. No. 858,875 Claims. (Cl. 58-105) This invention relates to a novel wrist watch and band protector.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved device of the kind indicated which protectively encloses and completely covers both a wrist watch band and a watch, against damage from being contacted with extraneous objects, and such as sweat, but whose watchenclosing component is readily openable to expose the watch for time reading.
Another object of the invention is to provide a less bulky, simpler and more practical device of the character indicated above which is adapted to be adjusted and fitted on the wrist, before applying a watch and its band, to a desired snug or loose fit, at the option of the wearer, the watch and band being then circumposed on the device, and the device closed around the watch and the band.
A further object of the invention is to provide a more eflicient and more comfortable device of the character indicated above, which enables the use of desirably flexible, wrist-conforming material in its construction, and whose construction is uncomplex and composed of a small number of simple and easily assembled parts so that the same can be readily made in attractive and serviceable forms of a variety of readily available materials, at relatively low cost.
Other important objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the following description and the accompanyingdrawings, wherein, for purposes of illustration only, a specific form of the invention is set forth in detail.

FIGURE 1 is a perspective plan View of a device of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of said device shaped and adjusted for wear on a wrist, the device being in open condition, with a wrist watch and band circumposed thereon, as shown in phantom lines;
FIGURE 3 is a view similar to FIGURE 2, showing the band enclosing component closed in band-enclosing condition, but with the watch enclosing component open;
FIGURE 4 is a view similar to FIGURE 3, but showign the watch enclosing component in closed position; and
FIGURE 5 is a transverse section taken on the line 55 of FIGURE 4.
Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, the illustrated device, generally designated 10, comprises a wrist watch band-enclosing component 12, and a watch enclosing component 14. The component 12 is composed of two substantially similar sections 16 and 18, which are in the form of circumferentially elongated, generally rectangular sheets of flexible material, having inner or first ends 20 and 22, respectively, and outer or second free ends 24 and 26, respectively.
The watch enclosing component 14 consists of a single, preferably rectangular sheet of flexible material, substantially wider than the sections 16 and 18. The inner ends of the sections 16 and 13 are secured to and extend from opposite ends of the component 14, as by being imposed on the upper surface 23 of the component 14 and secured thereon, by suitable means, such as stitchings 30 and 31, respectively.
The band enclosing sections 16 and 18 are substantially wider than an associated watch W and its band B, so that along their side edges 32 and 34, and 36, 38, respectively, the sections have foldable flap portions 40, 42 and 44, 46, respectively, these flap portions having secured upon their upper and lower surfaces, adjacent to related side edges male snap fastener elements 56, 58 and female snap fastener elements so, 62, respectively, which are engageable with each other to secure the flap portions together in superimposed relations, so that the sections are then, in effect, fiat tubes which conformably enclose the band B, as seen in FIGURES 3, 4 and 5.
For securing the sections 16 and 18 together, at their free ends, in adjusted overlapping relation, the section 18 has secured on its underside, two or more longitudinally spaced female snap fastener elements 64, and the section 16 has secured on its upper surface a single male snap fastener element 66, which is selectively engageable with the female elements 64, for adjusting the device to the wrist of the wearer.
The inner ends of the sections 16 and 18 are spaced from each other, lengthwise of the component 14, at a distance at least slightly greater than the length of the associated watch W, so that the watch lies freely upon the part of the component 14 between the section ends, and these inner ends serve as stops which prevent shifting of a watch circumferentially around the device 10.
Secured on the upper and lower surfaces of the component 14, at midlength of the points and at its opposite side edges, is a male snap fastener element 68, and a female snap fastener element 7%), which, when related side flap portions 72 and 74 of the element 68 are folded onto each other across the watch W, are engageable with each other, so that the watch W is protectively enclosed at its sides and top, and its face or dial is concealed. The watch face or dial can be quickly and easily exposed for the reading of time therefrom, by disengaging the fastener elements 68 and 70.
It is to be noted that, due to the overlapping of the component 14, at its ends, over inner end portions of the sections 16 and 18 of the component 12, these components are in materially supporting relationship, and the protection of the watch W is extended beyond the inner ends of the sections 16 and 18. Further, the wrap of the ends of the component 14 around the folded sections 16 and 18, serves to support the folded component 14 against being forced harmfully against the watch W by extraneous contacts, and gives the component 14 additional Watch cushioning effect.
The concept of the invention obviously does not exclude construction of the device 163 of a single piece of sheet material, whether of plastics, fabric, or flexible metal.
Although there has been shown and described herein a preferred form of the invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not necessarily confined thereto, and that any change or changes in the structure of and in the relative arrangements of components thereof are contemplated as being within the scope of the invention as defined by the claims appended hereto.
What is claimed is:
1. A wrist watch and band protector comprising a watch-enclosing component having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose a watch, first separable fastener means securing said flaps together, a band-enclosing component comprising sections having inner ends secured to related ends of the watch-enclosing component, said sections having free ends to be superimposed upon each other, second adjustable separable fastener means securing the free ends together, said sections having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose related parts of a band, and third separable fastener means securing the section flaps together.
2. A wrist watch and band protector comprising a :53 watch-enclosing component having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose a watch, first separable fastener means securing said flaps together, a band-enclosing component comprising sections having inner ends secured to related ends of the Watch-enclosing component, said sections having free ends to be superimposed upon each other, second adjustable separable fastener means securing the free ends together, said sections having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose related parts of a band, and third separable fastener means securing the section flaps together, said sections together serving to enclose the entire length of a wrist watch band at opposite sides of a watch enclosed by the watch-enclosing component.

A wrist watch and band protector comprising a watch-enclosing component having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose a watch, first separable fastener means securing said flaps together, a band-enclosing component comprising sections having inner ends secured to related ends of the watch-enclosing component, said sections having free ends to be superimposed upon each other, second adjustable separable fastener means securing the free ends together, said sections having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose related parts of a band, and third separable fastener means securing the section flaps together, said watch-enclosing component 'having an upper surface upon which a wrist watch is to rest, said inner ends of the sections being secured upon said upper surface and being spaced from the ends of the watch-enclosing component and from each other lengthwise of the watch-enclosing component, the spacing of the inner ends of the sections from each other substantially corresponding to the length of a watch to be accommodated and serving as stop shoulders for related ends of the watch.
4. A Wrist Watch and band protector comprising a watch-enclosing component having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose a watch, first separable fastener means securing said flaps together, a bandenclosing component comprising sections having inner ends secured to related ends of the watch-enclosing component, said sections having free ends to be superimposed upon each other, second adjustable separable fastener means securing the free ends together, said sections having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose related parts of a band, and third separable fastener means securing the section flaps together, said watch-enclosing component having an upper surface upon which a wrist watch is to rest, said inner ends of the sections being secured upon said upper surface and being spaced from the ends of the watch-enclosing component and from each other lengthwise of the watchenclosing component, the spacing of the inner ends of the sections from each other substantially corresponding to the length of a watch to be accommodated and serving as stop shoulders for the watch, the side flaps of the sections extending the full lengths of the sections, and the side flaps of the Watch-enclosing component extending the full length of the component, the flaps of the watchenclosing component being wrapped around and supportably engaged with the overlapping flaps of the sections.

A wrist watch and band protector comprising a watch-enclosing component having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose a watch, first separable fastener means securing said flaps together, a bandenclosing component comprising sections having inner ends secured to related ends of the watch-enclosing component, said sections having free ends to be superimposed upon each other, second adjustable separable fastener means securing the free ends together, said sections having side flaps to be folded onto each other to enclose related parts of a band, and third separable fastener means securing the section flaps together, said sections together serving to enclose the entire length of a wrist watch band at opposite sides of a watch enclosed by the watch-enclosing component, said watch-enclosing component and said band-enclosing sections being flat sheets of flexible material.
