PORTABLE FURNACE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,713, dated June 3, 1884. I Application filed December 27, 1883. (No model.)
- To aZZ whom it may concern:
Improvements in Portable Furnaces; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full,
' clear, and exact description of the invention,
which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same,
reference being had to the accompanying draw ings, which form apart of this specification, and in WhlCh-- Figure'l is aperspective view of our improved portable furnace. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the outside rim orsupport. -Fig. 3 is a vertical sectionalview, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation, of the furnace, showing a kettle or boiler placed over it.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in all the figures.
Our invention has relation to portable boilers for agricultural and domestic purposes; and it consists in-the detailed construction of a boiler-furnace adapted for the use of farmers for boiling feed, sugar, and all other purposes to which this class of furnaces is adapted.
In the accompanying drawings, A is a ring,
made of band-iron, and supported upon three legs, D. Fitting inside of the rim A is a cylinder, O, of sheet metal, open at the top and bottom, and bent outwardly on top, to form a rim or flange, D, adapted to overlap and rest upon the supportingring A. On one side of the cylinder 0 is a door, E, through which the fuel is placed in the furnace, and opposite to this door is an elbow, F, for'the attachment of the smoke-stack G.
The sheet-metal cylinder 0 may be raised or lowered inside of its supp'drting-ring A and held in its adjusted position by means of setscrews H, inserted through the rim A, and bearing with their inner ends against the outside of the cylinder 0. In this manner, by
raising the open-bottomed cylinder a short distan'ce above the ground, upon which the fire is built through the door E, an even draft is provided for the tire under the rim of cylinder 0 all around the furnace; or, if desired, a small trench may be dug transversely under the cylinder, through which air is fed to the fire inside. I
The kettle or boiler I should be of such a size as to fit over the top rim of cylinder 0, as shown in the drawings; and, if desired, a closely-fitting flanged cover may be placed over the open top of the cylinder, as indicated in dotted lines, when it is desired to use the apparatus for baking or for heating purposes.
