Description

T. S. LAMBERT.
Ca mp Stove;
No. 34,433. I Patentd Feb. 18, 1862.-
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THOMAS S. LAMBERT, OF PEEKSKILL, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAM P-S'TOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34,433, dated February 18, 1862.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS S. LAMBERT, of
Peekskill, Westchester county, New York- State, have invented a new and Improved Camp-Stove; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a stove that can be sunk in the ground, a draft being produced through an appropriate pipe leading from the upper edge of the stove and the smoke carried off by a pipe leading to the outside of the tent below the surface of the ground, while another pipe leads the air to be warmed from outside the tent down to ,the bottom of the stove into a space around it.
To enable those properly skilled to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
It is a cylinder which may be made'of any diameter desirable, from twelve to eighteen inches being the most common measure. It is composed of one or more sections bolted together with nut bolts, the upper section being enough larger than the lower to pass over it when the bolts are removed. In the side of the lowest section and near its bottom a hole is made to allow draft. Near the top of the upper section on the side opposite the draft-hole is another hole fitted with a collar to allow the smoke to pass off. Upon the opposite side and above the draft-hole a tube is fastened to the upper section, and into it another is fitted, which, when let down, opens into the draft-hole. Connected with one side of the lower section of the stove is another tube opening on its lower direction and leading to the pure air outside the tent, all of which is shown by the drawings, in which A A represent an upper and B B a lower section of a cylinder; at at, two bolts with nuts O D, an extended tube opening into the drafthole E; F, the smoke-flue with a collar; 11, the pure-air draft-tube; G, the cover;
L represents the inner surface of the earth, or a wall may be here constructed of brick, stone, or very cheaply of sectional cylinders of sheet-iron.
The fire-box may be of cast-iron, copper, or
other metal, but best of sheet-iron, with the upper edge of the upper cylinder hemmed or wired, and with a cast-iron cover.
WhatI claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the sectional cylinders with the draft pipes or flues OD I-I, constructed as described,and with the; smokeflue and cover, substantially as set forth.
THOS. S. LAMBERT.
