FERDIENAND SCHUEDDIG,
PATENT Fries.
OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SANDSTAONE-CRANDALL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,41'7fdated May 13, i884.
Application led March 27, 1884.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDIENAND ScHUnD- DIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Sandstone-Crandall, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of stonedressing tools specially used for dressing sandstone, in which double-headed points are held in a handle, so as to be readily removed and replaced for sharpening, 85o.
My improvements consist in the new and novel manner of holding said tools firmly within the handle.
To more fully describe my invention and to better make it understood to others, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in whioh'- Figure l is a perspective View of my improved Crandall.77 Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the saine. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the clampblocks- A is the handle, having its forward end slotted, as ordinary, at a.
B are the double-headed points, which enter into and pass through the slot of the handle.
O and C are movable clamp-blocks, one placed in each end of the slot a. These blocks have a notch or open slot, c, to allow their engagement around the attened sides of the handle at the ends of the slot, thereby being prevented from slipping out of said slot.
c is a long face, which acts against the side (No model.)
D is a setscrew at the end of the handle,
lwhich acts against the upper block, O', which cessitatiug` the reversing of the key or either the points in the slot when the other ends of said points are desired to be used. y
By my improvement in the manner of holding the points, either end may be used with absolute safety, thereby doublyincreasing the advantages in the use of the tool, also making it of better advantage to the operator by avoiding the possibility of using the wrong end of the points. Y
Having thus fully described the construction and operation ofmy invention, what I claim is Y In a Crandall, the handle A, having slot a, the points B, blocks C and O, having notches I or open slots o and long faces c', and the setscrew D, all combined, constructed, and arranged to operate as and for the purpose set forth.
