BAND-TUCKER. f'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,389, dated May 13, 1884.
Application filed August 30, 1883.
To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, VYLEY M. KEALEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Payson, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Band-Tuckers, of which the Vfollowin, is a specication, to wit:
This invention relates to an improvement in band-tuckers; and it consists in a metal casting formed to fit the inner surface ofthe thumb, and a flexible casing` or stall inclosing both the metal cap and the thumb, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertaius to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its constrctiou and operation, referring,` to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a view ot' a hand having my invention in proper position for use, and Fig. 2 is a view of the metal piece or casting.
A represents a casting forming a case 0r cap adapted to t the inner face of the thumb, and is formed at its base with a iia-re or ange, a, fitting the hand at the base of the thumb, and preventing the cap from hurting the hand. This cap is inclosed in a stall, B, of leather or other iieXible material, which completely incases the thumb, as shown in Fig. I, and is (No model.)
formed with an extension, b, having,` a cord, 3o b', or similar device, for securing around the wrist and preventing the accidental displace ment of the device.
This device is intended to be made either right or left, as may be desired, and when 35 placed upon the hand forms a complete protection to the thumb in tucking the bands of grain, the metal cap forming a stiff Shield, which prevents the pressure from hurting the thumb, while the iiexible bark or stall allows 4o of sufficient movement and bending,` to prevent any stiffness and insure ease of working.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A band-tucker composed of the metal shield or cap A, having` ange a, adapted to t the inner face of the thumb and its base, in eombination-with the stall B, of iieXible material, provided with a suitable device for securing 5o it to the wrist. substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VVYLEY M. KEALEN.
