PATENT OFFICE.
MARK A. a. WYCOUGH, or BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS.
ADJUSTABLE HAME FOR HARNESS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 297,958, dated April 29, 1884-. I
Application filed December 31, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARK A. R. WYGOUGH, acitizen of the United States, residing at Batesville, in the county of Independence and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Hames for Harness, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the ac companying. drawings.
My invention relates to an adjustable hame, the object of the invention being to provide an adjustable hame to fit different-sized collars.
The details of construction and arrangement of the several parts will be hereinafter more fully set forth in the specification, and pointed out in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hame embodying my improvements; Fig. 2, atransverse section of same; Fig. 3, a cross-section of harne, and Fig. 4 a detail perspective view of the hasp-hook.
The hame Ais cut away on its outer edge, so as to form a groove, g. Within this groove I place an adjustable sliding catch-bar, D, having the outward projection, d, at one end, and the downward projection, d, at the other. A tongue-bar, b, is secured to sliding barD at b,a
spring, 0, being interposed between the bar D and bar I).
The hasp-hook E,provided with the slotted ends 6, turns around the shank of staple F and engages with the pins h. The hasp can in this way be moved up and down and held in position over either pin h. There may be three or more of these pins. When theend d of bar D is pushed down into the groove 9, the end (1 is freed from contact with hole e of bar I, located in the bottom of said groove, and by pushing on the handle B the plate D is moved backward or forward,as desired, and when the projection d arrives at one of the openings e it automatically drops into it. By retaining a pressure on the projecting end d the catch extending upward and out of the groove, and a hand-plate, b, secured to and adapted to will pass over as many holes as desired. It 5 will be observed that there is but little wear in the several parts, and nothing that is easily broken or displaced by the rough usage which harness-hames necessarilyundergo. The several movable elements are preferably made of malleable iron, although they may be made of cast metal.
Having thus described claim'is- 1. In a hame, the adjustable plate D, provided with a'projecting push end, d, and an engaging projection, d, said plate being actuated by the plate b, secured to said plate D, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A haine having a grooved edge, having holes or notches in the bottom thereof, a sliding bar or plate moving in said groove, one
my invention, what I end of the bar having a projection to engage with the holes in the groove, the opposite end move said sliding bar, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
3. A hame having a grooved edge,a notched or perforated plate in the bottom ot'said groove, an adjustable plate or bar provided with an outwardly-projecting end and downward-proj ecting point, a handle-plate, b, secured to the v sliding bar, and a spring interposed between the sliding bar and the handle-plate,as and for the purposeset forth.
. 4.. Ahame provided with an adjustable hook, E, and an adjustable bar, D, sliding in a groove, 9, at one end of said hame, the sliding bar having a plate, b, and ring 13 secured thereto, sub stantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARK A.
