MUSIC-BOOK HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,553, dated April 29, 1884-.
Application tiled August 18, 1883. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom t may concern,.-
Be it' known that I, CLINTON S. ANDEM, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and use- 'ful Music-Book Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a music-book holder l in which thereis'a clamp piece or jaw of glass companying drawings, in which Figure l is a front view of my invention, the dotted lines showing in outline the leaves of a book placed in the holder. Fig. 2 is a sectional edge view, showing the several parts in detail.
A is the back or supporting piece, which I make of any desired ornamental form and material. f
B is the clamp-spring, which, at the bottom, projects below and beyond the back piece, A, to form a support for the holder, while its top is carried backward toward the back piece and turned outwardly in some ornamentall shape. It is also provided near its upper end and on the inner side with a strap, b, formed to receive and retain the glass clamp-piece C. The spring B, I preferably extend up on the outside of the back A, and secure it there by bolts or screws, as shown in Fig. 2.
The back piece is covered with velvet or some other soft-textured material, to prevent its marring a piano or other instrument on which it is used.
In practical use, the music-book is' placed in the clamp, the glass piece C extending across its pages, and the book and holder are then together placed in the music-rack of the instrument without the necessity of removing it until the two pages have been read, as the note-s can readily be seen through the glass strip.
It is obvious that my invention can be used with equal advantage with other books than music-books. It is equally apparent that the utility of my invention is not confined to the use of the specic form of clamp-spring herein shown. It will be equally operative and useful where the glass strip C is used with any form of-elamp-spring that will bring the strip C upon the faces of the book-pages to keep the book open.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 4l. In a book-holder, the glass clamp-piece O, combined with aspring-clamp, B, provided Vwith a retaining-band, b, and a back or supporting piece, A, as shown.
2. In a book-holder, a transparent clamppiece, C, combined with a clamping device, said clamp-piece constructed substantially as described, to operate on the face of the bookpages, to hold the book open.
oLiN'ToN sjANDEM.
