Description

(N0 Model.)
P. FRAIZER.
SAW HANDLE.
No. 297,125. Patented Apr. 22, 18,84.
NITED STATES ATENT OEEICE.
PERRY FRAIZER, OF MOUNT SUMMIT, INDIANA.
SAW-HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 297,125, dated April 22, 1884.
(No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may cocern:
Beit known that I, PERRY FRAIZER, of the town of Mount Summit, county of Henry, and
' State of Indiana, have invented certain new the loop which encircles the end of the saw into the form of a T, the arms of which eX tend out to the edges of the saw, and the stem of which extends up into the handle, and preferably is secured therein by a nut, into which it is adapted to be screwed, as shown.
My invention is useful in cases where it is desired that the cut of the saw should be horizontal, as in sawing down standing trees, it being understood, of course, that the handles of such saws should always be vertical.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
which are made a part hereof, and on which similar letters of reference indicate similar parts, Figure l is a perspective view of a saw embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the handle as seen when attached to the saw from the rear edge of said saw, and Fig. 3 a transverse vertical section on the dotted line x x.
In said drawings, the portions marked A represent the handle, B, a conical washer or bearing-plate; C, a T-shaped loop-bolt, and D the saw-plate.
In operation, the T-shaped loop bolt is slipped over the end ofthe saw D, and the handle A is turned until the nut a draws the screw-threaded stem c of said bolt so far into itself that the face of the conical washer B, which is upon the lower end of said handle, is forced tightly against the side of said saw. Said washer has notches bin its face, which receive those portions of the loop-bolt which are upon the side of the saw next the handle, thus permitting said washer to come in contact with said saw when the handle is screwed down onto said loop-bolt. This will be plainly understood upon an examination of the drawings, especially Fig. 2.
The distinguishing features of my present invention are the T-shaped loop-bolt and the notched washer, as above specified. Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a saw-handle, a T- shaped loop-bolt formed' in a single piece, adapted to encircle or clasp the end of the saw-plate, and means for securing the same to said saw-plate,where by the handle is set at right angles with the cut of the saw, instead of in line therewith, substantially as set forth.
- 2. .In a saw-handle, the combination of the usual handle, the washer upon the lower end of said handle, the T- shaped loop-bolt formed in one piece with the arms at substantially right angles with the shank, and said shank extending up through said washer into said handle, where it engages with a suitable fastening therein, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination of the saw-handle A,
the Washer B upon the lower end of said handle, having slots in its lower face, and a T- shaped loop-bolt, C, formed in one piece, the shank of which is adapted to enter a longitudinal hole in the lower end of the handle, and means for securing the bolt in said hole, whereby said handle may be securely clamped to said saw, substantially as set forth.
4. rIhe combination, with the saw-handle A, of a conical washer, B, at the lower end of said handle, said washer being slotted upon its lower face, anda T-shapcd loop-bolt, made in one piece, and having a screw-threaded shank adapted to engage with a nut arranged in a longitudinal perforation in the end of said handle, substantially as described, and for the purposes specified.
. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, at Mount Summit, Indiana, this 19th day of May, A. D. 1883.

SAMUEL HARVEY.
