CROSS/CUT-SAW HANDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 239,822, dated April 5, 1881.
Application filed December 28, 1880. (No model.)

Be it known that I, IRVING W. MCINTYRE, of Mount Pleasant, in the county of Isabella and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvementin Orosscnt-Saw Handles, of which the following is a specification.
The nature of this invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the con struction of handles for crosscnt-saws; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter setforth.
Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central'section.
In the accompanying drawings,.which form a part of this specification, A represents the handle, in the lower end of which is bored the recess a, leading to and through the not b, which is let into the handle, as shown. Upon the lower end of the handle A is secured ametallic ferrule, B, which is internally threaded to receive the binding-nut O. This not C has a groove, 0, cut across its face, and. is centrally perforated, as at d, to receive the tang D, the inner end of which is threaded to engage with the nut b in the handle, and the outer portion of this tang is slotted longitudinally, as shown, to receive the saw-blade.
' It will he observed that the threads of the end of tang D and the threads of the grooved not 0 are inclined in opposite directions, so that the tang D can be retracted and the nut 0 extended by-turning the handle.
In practice the tang is extended so thatthe saw-blade will just slip into the slot, the nut 0 being screwed down upon the ferrule and the back of the saw resting in the groove 0. By then turning the handle so as to retract the tang the nut G will be extended, thus secure] y locking the saw-blade in place.-
What I claim as my invention is A handle for crosscut saws, consisting of the handle A, internally screw-threaded ferrule B, tang D, screw-threaded at its upper end, and nuts 0 and b, the threads on the end of the tang D and the threads of the grooved not 0 being inclined in opposite directions, whereby the tang D can be retracted and the nut 0 extended by turning the handle, substantially as described.
