SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,997, dated April 15, 1884-.

To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARILLA D. ORDWAY, of Reed City, in the county of Osceola and State of Michigan, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Window-Stops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of,
window-stops; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and various combinations of the parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a vertical section. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line X X in Fig. 1.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a por tion of a window-sash, and B the frame or jamb. In thejamb I sink and rigidly secure the metallic cup-stop G, as shown. The corresponding edge of the sash A, I recess, as shown, and in this recess I secure a well, D, by means of the screws a.
E represents a thimble, which projects nearly through the sash, and is provided'with a stud or arm, Z2, which projects beyond the inner face of the sash. A bolt, F, provided with a head, G, projects through the thimble E and receives upon its end a lever, H, to
which it is pivotally secured. At either end of the well D, I secure one end of a leaf-spring,
I, the free ends of which enter and engage with a channel in the head G of the bolt F.
In practice, when the sash is closed, the springs I cause the head of the bolt to project and engage wit-h the cup-stop G in the janib. If it is desired to open the window, the lever H is pulled down and strikes against the arm 22, which causes the parts to assume positions shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, withdrawing the bolt, when the sash can easily be raised, the end of the bolt coming in contact with the fjamb, while the tension of the springs is del signed to be sufficient to hold the bolt in frictional contact with the jamb and retain the sash at any point it may be desired.
What I claim as my invention is l. A window-stop consisting of the bolt F, having a head, G, provided with a channel, as described, in combination with springs I, having one end secured to the sash and the other fitting in and engaging with said channel, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a window-stop, the combination of the bolt F, having head G, springs I, bent 1ever H, thimble E, provided with arm I), serving as a fulcrum for said lever, and cup-stop 0, when constructed, arranged, and operating substantially in the manner and for the purposes specified.
