PREsERVE-JAR FAsTENlNe.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,876, dated April 15, 1884.
Application tiled November 22, 1883. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, t may concern,.-
Be it known that I, ENRICO RosENzi, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny, State of ennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Preserve- Jar Fastenings, which improvement is fully set forth in thefollowing specication and accompanying drawings, in which* Figure l is a side elevation of a preservejar embodying my invention, the lid being separated from the body. Fig. 2is a Vertical "Section of a portion thereof in line xx, Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a top or plan view of the body ofthe ar.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of apreserve-jarfast-- ening oi' novel construction, whereby the jar may be thoroughly sealed, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the jar, and B the cover or lid thereoi'.
C represents horizontally arranged ings which are formed with and vproject inwardly from opposite sides of the mouth of the jar, and D represents a shoulder on the inner face of the neck below said lugs C.
In the neck B oi' the lid B, at opposite same beginning at the vertical throats a at the bottoni ofthe neck, and extending upwardly to the overhang-ing rini B of the lid, said throats being adapted to receive the lugs C. At the top of the neck ofthelidis a circumferential groove, c, in which is iitted the gasket F, which is adapted to be compressed by the rim B of the lid against the top edge of the mouth of the jar.
The operation is as follows: The lid is presented to the top or mouth of the jar, so that the throats enregister with the lugs C, andlowered so that the lugs enter the throats.' The lid is then rotatedmfhereby the lugs enter the groove E and draw the lid against the gasket F', which rests on the shoulder D, and the gasket F on the top edge of the mouth of the jar, clamping and tightly holdingthelidin position and hernietioally sealing the jar, it be ing noticed that the bottoni oi' the neck ofthe lid rests on the shoulder D, thus closing the joint thereat, and the rim of the lid restsl on the top oi' the mouth of the jar, thus closing the joint ther-eat, the gasket F being also compressed laterally against the top of the neck of the lid in the groove o, and closing the joint there existing, so that the hermetical sealing of the jar is assured.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The body A, formed with lugs G and a shoulder, D, in combination with the lid formed with an overhanging rim, B, and a neck, B', and the two gaskets, the neck being spirally grooved, as at E, substantially as and
