Description

L. H. BRADLEY..
JUG PACKING BOX.
(No Model.)
Patented Apr. 15, 1884.
N. PETERS. Fhnlo-Liibognpher. Washingmn Ill;
UNITED STATES PATENT Erica,
LEONIDAS H. BRADLEY, OF SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS.
JUG-PACKING BOX. I
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,819, dated April 15, 1884. Application filed September 15,1es3. x0 model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEONIDAS H. BRADLEY, of Springfield, in the county of Sangamon and in the State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Jug-Packing Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my device when containing a jug, a portion of the top and of the sides being removed to show the interior. Fig. 2 is a like view of the collar used for securing the jug in lateral position. Fig. 3 is a like view from opposite sides of one of the washeis used for-holding said jug down upon the bottom of the box, and Fig. 4 is a vertical central section of the device upon line a; of Fig. 1.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures. I
The design of my invention is to furnish an inexpensive and efiicient means for packing j eggs for storage and transportation which may be easily adjusted to various sizes of jugs; and to this end said invention consists in the construction and combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawings, A represents a wooden box, which in horizontal section has suflicient interior dimensions to admit of the insertion therein of a jug, B, of the desired diameter, and vertically such dimensions'as to enable it to receive the tallest jug of the predetermined diameter which is to be packed. To confine the jug B in vertical position, one or more washers, 0, each provided with a central opening, 0, that is somewhat larger than the mouth of said jug, are placed between said mouth and the cover a of the box A, said washers having such thickness as to cause said cover when fastened down to exertaslight downward pressure upon the same, and through them upon said jug. Each of said washers is provided within one face with ahalfround groove, 0, which fits over the upper end of the handle I) should said handle project above the mouth of said jug. The jug B is securely held in lateral position by means of a collar, D, shown in Fig. 2, which has such size and shape as to cause it to fill the space horizontally within the box A, and is provided with a central opening, (I, which enables it to fit over the neck a of said jug, and a radial slot, (7', that is adapted to r. ceive the handle b. Said collar is held in place upon said jug by means of the washers O, which project laterally beyond said neck and bear upon the upper side of said collar.
For variations in the heights of jugs the number of washers is increased or diminished as required, by which means jugs of anyheight within the limits of the box may be securely packed, and when secured as described may be handled or transported with safety and without exposure of their contents.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, what I claim as new 1s The hereiubeforedescribed j rig-holder, consisting of the box A, provided with the cover a, the washers 0, having each a central opeir ing, a, and the GOllZtIQD, provided with the central opening, (2, and radial slot (1, all combined substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of September, 1883.
LEONIDAS H. BRADLEY.
