Beit known that I, EDWARD T. PnARsoN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at tvashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in File-Holders and Cases, of which the following is aspecification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention has relation to file-holders and cases; and the object is to provide a simple and durable file-holder and case for the use of the various departments ofthe Government, as well as professional and private parties, for the preservation of papers, documents, and the like; and the novelty consists in the construction of the same, as will he hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings the same letters of reference indicate the same or like parts of the invention.

To release the standard, the first two fingers of the hand are inserted between the standard and the follower, near its base, and a slight pull backward given, while at the same time the thumb presses the top I forward. This motion raises the fulorum H from the front and releases the standard, and it may then he drawn hack to the end ofthe recesses D D.

To lock the standard, the files or papers are,

forward until the follower compresses the files,

and the hand is then removed. The eXpansion of the files upon the follower is communicated to the upper part, I, of the standard, which presses its fulcrum down and throws the arms up, thus irmly locking it in position.

K is the file-holder case, preferably con structed of wood, and each pigeon-hole is provided with a pair of metallic rails, N, having flange N and a boss, n, through which passes a rod, a. The base of the holder slides in upon these rails, as shown in Fig. 3, and when the holder is drawn out the hooks c engage with the rod a', which allows the holder to tilt forward and remain in an upright suspended positionon the front of the case, as fully shown in Fig. 4.

To remove the holder entirely from the case, it is raised an inch or so vertically, whichreleases the hoolr c from the rod n', and it may then he det-ached from the case.'

I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-

l. In a file-holder, the sides C. having recessed slots D, in combination with the standard E, having forwardly and laterally projecting arms` G G, as and for the purposeset forth.

2. The combination, with the wooden case K, provided with metallic rails N, having bosses a and the cross-rod a', of the holder consisting of the hase A, front B, and sides C O, having hooks c c, and standard E, having follower F, as and for the purposes set forth.
