UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES A. PARK, OF LANSING, MICHIGAN.
SNAP-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,607, dated April 8, 1884.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, JAMES A. PARK, of Lansing, in the county of Ingham and State of Michigan, have invented certain new. and usey ful. Improvements in Snap-Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to snap-hooks, the object being to provide a lsimple and effective method of applying straps thereto without having to resort to the use of stitches or rivets.
The invention consists in making and adding certain features or parts to snap-hooks for harness, as hereinafter fully described.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a snap, face side down, with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a view, face side up. Fig. 3 is a view, face side down, with strap inserted. Fig. 4: is a view, face side up, with strap inserted. Fig. 5 is a view, face side down, with strap partially inserted. Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view, with strap inserted. Figs. 7 and 8 are modied views, and Fig. 9 a side view.
My invention is applied to any snap-hook which has a rear loop, o, for a strap. The rear bar, c, of said loop I provide with a downwardly-projecting pin or stud, B. (See Fig'. 7 Upon the end of this pin or stud is a small button or projection, either as seen in Fig. 8, or as is shown in all the other views.
To the rear of the bar c, I add an additional rearwardly and upwardly projecting loop, a. (See dotted lines in Fig. 7; also, the said loop. appears in all the other views.)
The form of that part of the snap in front of the loop o may be varied, as there are various kinds of snaps. s
When the snap is made with my invention thereto, I pass the strap just through the loop o', over the bar a, Fig. 5, thence under the bar c, and through far enough to allow the end of the strap to be turned around at right angles to hook over the button of the pin B. 'Ihen I turn the strap around in line with the snap and pull the long end of the strap till the p0- sit-ion is obtained, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
Having fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A snap-hook whose end loop is provided with a headed pin or stud, substantially as set forth.
2. A snap-hook formed with the usual end loop and an additional loop and a headed stud or pin, substantially as set forth.
3. A snap -hook whose end loop is forlned with an inclined integral headed stud and an inclined integral loop, substantially as set forth.
4. A snap-hook formed with the usual end loop, a downwardly projecting inclined stud having an elongated head, and an upwardlyprojecting inclined loop, substantially as set forth.-
In 'testimony whereof I have signed thisspeeication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
.I AMES A. PARK. Witnesses:
DEAN PARK, GEO. W. FREEMAN.
