SPCIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,459, dated April 8, 1884.
Application filed October 25, 1983. (No model.)
To cLZZ witam it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT O. RooD, a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented an lmprovement in Selva-ges for Hammocks, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description, referencebeing made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved selvage for hammocks; and Fig. 2'is an en- Iarged plan View, showing the sel'vage niore open.
This invention relates to hammock-selvages of the class which is deseribed in Letters Pat ent No. 269,542, of December 26, 1882, for use in ham'niooks such as are deseribed in Letters Patent No. 277,161, of May 8, 1883, and in other hamxnocks. i
The object of the invention is to render the braided seirage inextensible. That shown in Vthe first-mentioned patent, under strain, will stretch, and so will that shown in the patent of May 8, 1883.
The present invention consists in passing through the selvage, which is composed of braided strands, one or more straight cords, which prevent it from` becoming stretched.
It also consists in making one of the bodystrands of the hammoek that 'passes through the seivage-loops in one piece with or a coniinuation of the strand that extends through i In the drawings, the letter A represents the braided strands, having the end loops, a a, fornied thereon, and forming the body of the selvage. Through this selvage is passed longitudinally a strand, '1), which forms at proper intervals loops e e, in which the inner bodystrands,f g, of the hamnlock itself are rested. One of these bodysstrands, f, is shown in Fig. 1 to connect by the end loop, h, with astraight strand, -z`, that passes through the selvage, which is made up of the braided strands. The strand 17 may, if desired, be made separate from the strandf.
I elaim- 1. The sevage for hamniocks, A, consisting of a number of braided st-rands, in eomhina ton with the straight strand i, passing longitudinaily therethrough, as set forth.
2. The selvage for ham moeks, A, consisting of a number of hraided strands, in combination with the strand Z), having loops e formed therein, and the strands f and the strand v3 passing through the selvage and the strand f 5 5 through the loops e, substantiailyas described.
