ALEXANDER HANVEY, 'OF STEUBENVILLE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO VILLIAM SCOTT, OF SAME PLACE.
. TAG OR LABEL HOLDER.
VSPCIPICA'JION forming part of Letters Patent; No. 295,752, dated March 25, 1884.
Y Application 'filed February 11, 188i. (No model.)
To LZZ wwm, it may concern);
Beit known that I, ALEXANDER HANvnY, a citizen of the United Statesgesiding at Steubenville, in the county oiiglleier'son and State of Ohio, have invented a'new and useful De vice for Attaching Labels to Mail-Bags and other Articles, of which the following is a specification.
Myinventiou relates to improvements `in devices for attaching labels to inail-bags and other articles; and it consists in so bending a piece of wire as to admit of attaching and detaching labels readily, and also to hold them securely,v when attached, without danger of their being lost oil".
The drawing is a perspective View of my invention.
The eye a is formed by bending the wire into a circle of suitable size to allow of its being attached to the bag orpother article to be labeled. The two ends of the wire c and c are then brought parallel to eachtother, a sui'icient distance intervening between to allow the label sufficient play togavoid` its being held rigidly between them. At the proper distance from the eye a the end ot' the wire c is turned oft'` at right angles anche edrginto the forni of a hook, x, from which vpoint the label hangs suspended when attached, While the Wire e passes through or within the curve 'forming the hook fr, a short distance, to prevent lthe label being lost oil' while the Vbag is being handled. The eye ct acts also as a spring to bring the hook a' and the straight Wire e into proper positions again after a label has been attached.
To attach a. label, enter the end of the Wire c, forming the hook x, into the hole of the label and follow the curve with the label, passing it over the straight Wire c to the point when the straight wire e will have resumed its natural position again from which it was moved by the placing of the label, acting as a keeper to prevent the label losing oft'. y To remove the label, follow the curve of the hook .fr with the label, passing it under the straight Wire c.
I claim- An improved spring tag or label holder, consisting ot' a single piece ol wire bent to form the eye a, and two parallel prongs, c c, one of which is bent at its end to form the hook m, and the other extending beyond the hook and adapted to rest therein, all substantially as set forth.
ALEXANDER HANVEY.
