CARL AUGUST PFENNING, OF BARMEN, GERMANY.
FASTENER FOR GLOVES, ,GAITERS, s60.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,583, dated March 25, 1884.
Application filed August 6, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may. concern:
Be it known that I, CARL AUGUST PFEN- NING, of Barmen, Germany, have invented a Gloves, Gaiters, Boots, and Bags, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object the easy and rapid fastening of gloves, bags by means of buttons.
In describing the invention reference will be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective View, Fig. 2 a cross-section, and Fig. 3 a plan, while the remaining figures, 4t, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11, illustrate details and modifications.
The button consists of a solid body, a, rounded hemispherically at the top, with a radial bore, 0, inside of which a pin, i, is fitted, so that the pressure of the. spring f, coiled round it, always tends to keep the knob Z) of the said pin protruding over the button. To prevent the knob b from falling outof the bore 0, the edges of the latter are slightly bent in ward after the pin has been introduced into the bore, so as to afford a rest for the thick hind part of the knob. The length of the pin is made so as to allow the knob to be pressed into the bore. This knob has for its purpose to prevent theeyelet c, after it has been pressed over the button, Figs. 2 and 3, from sliding back over the protruding part of the button.
' protuberance, g, hollowed out conically or cy- For fastening the button to the leather, the
solid body a is provided at the bottom with a lindrically. (See section, Fig. 10.) The button stands on a perforated plate, 8, laid on the leather, and a second similar plate, 8, is laid at the bottom, so that the protuberance 9 passes through the-hole of the plate. The
edges of the protuberance are then bent out ward and the leather is pressed between these two plates, whereby, the button is firmly secured.
gaiters, boots, or
The pin of the one enters the hollow pin of the other, and the coil between them presses the two knobs outward in the same way as already described, using the same means for preventing their falling out of the bore of the button. r "What I claim is l. A button for. gloves, gaiters, boots, or bags, consisting of a solid body, at, having a radial bore, 0, into which is fitted a movable pin and a coiled spring, the pin being provided with a knob pressed outward by the said spring, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of a solid button, a, fixed to one of the two parts to be united, and having a radial bore, with a movable pin, 1', fitted intothe said bore, and a coiled Spring, f, secured in the said bore, so as to press the pin outward, and an eyelet fixed to the other of the two parts to be united, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscrib ing witnesses.
CARL AUGUST PFENNING.
