I DUMPING WAGON. 7
No. 295,071. I Patented Mar. 11, 1884.

PATENT @rrrcn THOMAS S. STEWVART, OF SALTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DUMPlN G-WAGON.
SPECIFICATION forming part -of Letters Application filed December 10, 1883.
useful improvements in Automatic Catches for Dumping-Carts; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a side view with the body of the cart in a horizontal position. Fig. 2 is also a side View, and shows the cart tipped as for dumping, the sills being released from the clevises. Fig. 3 is an end view with the shafts out off at the clevises. Fig. at is a perspective view of one of the clevises.
This invention has relation to improvements in means for automatically catching and hold ing down the bed of a dumping-cart; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement and combination, with the shafts and side sills of the body of a dumping-cart, of a pivoted counterbalanced loop-clevis, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, the letters A A designate the clevises, which extend upward from the transverse rod B, by which they are connected, the rod and clevises being pivoted to the cart-shafts O O in bearings D. The clevises A A are loop-shaped, and project above the upper surfaces of the shafts (l G, and are provided each with an oblique upwardly and forwardly projecting arm or projection, E, extending from its upper portion.
G indicates a counterbalancing weight, which-is connected to the clevises, and extends backward from the pivotal axis, being designed to operate upon the clevises in such a manner Patent No. 295,071, dated March 11, 1884,
(N0 model.)
as to causethem to assume and maintain the upright position.
H represents the cart-bed, and K the side sills thereof, from which extend forward the arms or projections L, the ends of which are beveled on'their under sides. When the cartbed is down, the projections L extend a little beyond the clevises, and are of proper form to fit within the'loop-shaped upper portion of said clevises. When the clevises are tilted forward by raising the weight-arms N, the projections L are released and the cart-bed is allowed to turn on its axis to discharge its load. hen the cart returns to its level position, the projections L thereof engage the arms or oblique bearings E of the clevises and cause the latter to rock forward to allow said projections to pass down, when the clevises are, by their weights, brought over said projections engaging the same.
Stops S are usually provided in rear of the clevis-arms to limit the backward movement of the ,clevises, and front stops, Z, may be placed in position to limit the forward move ment, if desired.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- In a dumping-cart, the loop-clevis consisting of upwardly and outwardly curved arms,
