Description

(NoModelJ 3; 0. MILLER.
WATCH MAKERS SIGN.
Patented Mar..1 1," 1884.
Avi ts;
UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
EDWVARD MILLER, OF BELLEFONTAINE, OHIO.
WATCH-MAKERS SIGN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,037, dated March 11, 1884,
Application filed March 9, 1883. (X0 model.) I
To aZZ whom, it may concern Be it known that LEDWARD C. MILLER, of Bellefontaine, in the county of Logan and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in VVatch-Makers Signs, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a front view, and Fig. 2a vertical section, both figures showing the upper end of the post on which the sign is supported.
My invention relates to a watch-makers sign, constructed as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings,'A is a suitable supporting-post, having a reduced upper end, A, as shown. Y
B represents a watch having a stem, B, and an opening, 0, in its rim opposite the stem to admit the reduced end of the post. This opening 0 is strengthened by a block or collar, D, which is bolted to the rim of the watch, as shown in Fig. 2. Upon the upper end of the post is a removable pin, E, with a conical head or upper end, which fits in a similarshaped opening, F, in the stem of the watch, as shown in Fig. 2. The sign is supported on this pin, so that when the wind strikes one side of the sign, generally by being deflected from some other object, it will turn, thus avoiding danger of its being split or torn to pieces by the wind, and by making the pin E removable it can be replaced by another when it becomes worn.
My sign preferably consists of an unusuallylarge watch, and it is particularly essential that it be thus supported to avoid the dangers mentioned. Suitable braces, G, extending across the sign within the casing, are employed to strengthen the sign, which is preferably made of sheet metal.
I do not wish to confine myself to any particular size or to any particular construction of the watch-casing, nor do I wish to confine myself to any particular material; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a watch-makers sign, the combination of post A, having reduced end A, watch-casing B, having braces G, extending across the casing, and stem B, having opening F, a block, D, having opening 0 and secured to the bottom of the casing, and a removable pin, E, secured to the end of the post and fitting in the opening in the stem, as set forth.
