SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,025, dated March 11, 1884:.

To aZZ whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WALTER LEIGH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in AdjustableClothing-Forms, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the adjustable form. Fig. 2 is aplan View of its upper portion, and Fig. 3 is a section of the slide.

. The object of my invention is a clothingform that can easily be adjusted. to garments of different size.

The invention consists in the construction of the form, and in the means employed to expand it and make the adjustments of the same, as hereinafter-more fully described and explained.

To enable others to'make and use my improved form, I will give a detailed description of the same. The base Aand the'upright .round bar B, which is fastened to the base, form a stand and support all the other parts of the adj ustable form.

C is a hoop,wliich is held in position by the arm a, which is rigidly fastened to the hoop, and is. also fastened to the bar B by a setscrew or other suitable means. Thelower ends of the ribs :0 are fastened to the hoop.

D is also a-hoop, and is held in position by the cross-bar b,which is fastened to the hoop, 5 and. is providedwith a central hole, through which the-slide E moves. Into the lower edge of this hoop the upper ends of the ribs x are secured,and preferably secured by eyes formed on the ends of the ribs, which pass through 0 holes in the lower edge of the hoop. Thus secured the ends of the ribs can turn in the hoop. The curved sections (2 are made of round wire, and are soldered or otherwise rigidly attached to the ribs.

.5- The slide E is a tube fitting 011 the round bar B, and has its upper end enlarged and closed, Its lower end is also enlarged, and has the form of a circular disk. In a slotted lug, e, on the slide the catch-lever F is pivoted, and its lower end is forced into the notches on the bar B by the spring m. The arms a are made of round wire, and have eyes formed on their ends. The inner ends of the arms pass through holes in the disk on the lowerend of the slide E. The outer ends pass around the sections (1. A collar is placed on the bar B, and between it and the lower end of the slide a spiral spring is placed. The function of the spring is to force up the slide, but the collar and spring may be dispensed with without materially impairing the usefulness of the form.

Constructed as above described and as shown, as the slide is forced downward the arms a spread the ribs in their own direct-ion, adjust the central port-ion of the form, to which the sections at are attached to garments of different size, the central portion of the form assuming the form shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2, and the catch-lever holding the slide.

Having described my adjustable clothingform and its operation, what I claim as new,

I and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The clothingeform herein described, consisting, essentially, of the base A, upright notched bar B, hoops C and D, slide E, catchlever F, arms a, sections d, and ribs or, all the said parts constructed and combined, as shown and set forth. 7

2. In a clothingform, the slide E and catchlever F, engagin-g'the notches on the upright bar B, in combination with the sections (1, and arms a, pivoted to the sections and to the slide to spread the ribs of the form,as set forth.
