DUAL FLAvoR CIGAR 0R CIGARETTE Filed March 12, 1959 /h EIA/vos@ KONRAD INVENTOH ATTORNEYS United States DUAL FLAVOR CIGAR R CIGARETTE Alexander Konrad, 7431 Ridgewood Drive, Parma, hio Filed Mar. 12, 1959, Ser. No. 798,884 1 Claim. (Cl. 131-9) This invention relates to a cigar or cigarette, the primary object of the invention being to provide a cigar or cigarette which is constructed to produce a dual iiavor, with the result that a person smoking the cigar or cigarette may, by lighting the cigar or cigarette at one end, cause the burning of the cigar or cigarette to produce a avor distinguished from the avor of the smoke incident to the burning of natural tobacco, used in the manufacture of cigars or cigarettes, when the other end of the cigar or cigarette is lit.
An important object of the invention is to provide a cigar or cigarette wherein a distinguishing flavor producing element surrounds the tobacco at a point adjacent to one end of the cigar or cigarette to saturate the smoke produced during lthe smoking of the cigar or cigarette, transferring the avor to the mouth of the smoker.
Another object of the invention is the provision of marking means for indicating the end of the cigarette in which the avoring medium is contained, so that the selection as to the end of the cigarette desired to be lit, may be readily and accurately made.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter described, and the novel features thereof defined in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a cigar, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view, taken on the section line 2 2 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 3 is a sectional view showing the invention embodied in a cigarette.
Referring to the drawing in detail, and to Figs. 1 and 2 in particular the reference character indicates generally a cigar constructed in accordance with the invention, the cigar including a wrapper of the usual tobacco leaf wrapping and a filler 11, the filler 11 constituting the natural leaf tobacco used in cigar manufacture.
At a point adjacent to one end of the cigar proper there is a avoring medium 12 made of material which, when subjected to the heat of the burning tobacco at one end of the cigarette, will cause the burning of the davoring medium to saturate the smoke which is drawn through the cigarette by the smoker. The avoring medium is in the form of an annulus 12, which surrounds the leaf tobacco 9 and is encompassed by the leaf wrapper 10, as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawing.
If the person smoking the cigar wishes to smoke same in the usual way, that is without the avoring medium,
the other end of the cigar is lit by the smoker, whereupon the smoke which is drawn through the cigar does not in any way become saturated with the avoring medium, since no heat is produced at the burning end of the cigar to effect the smoke.
A band indicated by the reference character 13 and which is of the conventional character, is shown as positioned adjacent to the end of the cigar in which the flavoring medium 12 is embedded, this indicates to the person using the cigar, which end of the cigar should be lit in order to provide a flavored smoke.
It is also contemplated to stamp on the cover of the cigarette, directly adjacent to one end of the cigarette, the letters FL indicating avor so that the proper end of the cigarette to be lighted may be selected.
The iiavoring material used in the manufacture of the cigar may be of any desired material which will add the desired avor to the smoke from the cigar, which may embody any of the known starches and sugars, or inorganic compounds that would produce the desired flavor.
In Fig. 3 the invention is shown as applied to a cigarette. The reference numeral 15 here indicates a cigarette of the usual construction including a wrapper 16 of paper, and a filler 17, this filler being comprised by the natural ground leaf tobacco used in cigarette manufacture. The annulus 12 of iavoring medium is provided adjacent one end of the cigarette, within the wrapper 16 and partially surrounding the ller 17.
From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a cigar `or cigarette which is so constructed that a flavor-ing medium which is disposed in one end of -the cigar or cigarette will be effected by the heat from. the burning end of the cigarette adjacent to the liavoring medium.
Should it be desired to avoid the flavored smoke, it is only necessary to light the other end of the cigar or cigarette which contains only the natural tobacco leaf to be burned.
Having thus described the What is claimed is:
A cigar or cigarette comprising a wrapper, a tobacco ller encased in said wrapper, a smoke avoring medium in the form of a band encircling the tobacco filler between the ller and said wrapper adjacent to one end of the cigar or cigarette, said flavoring band being reactable to the heat of the burning cigar or cigarette, thereby producing a flavoring medium avoring the smoke drawn through the cigarette when the end of said cigarette containing the ltering band is lit, and means disposed on the Iwrapper indicating the end of the cigar or cigarette in which said flavoring band is retained.
