CORNE R-IRON FOR CARRIAGE-SEATS.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 293,663, dated February 19, 1884.

To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HARVEY A. MOYER, of Syracuse, county of Onondaga,'and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Seat Corner-Irons for Wagons, Buggies, 850.; and I do'hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the 'letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention consists, mainly, in constructing a seat-iron of a fiat metallic strip of L-shaped form, with short ribs adapted to furnish the proper. metal for fastening purposes without coming in contact with the seatcushion. v
It consists, further, in the combinatiomwith the main corner-iron, of an auxiliary corneriron of specific, construction, located at the junction of the base -board with the sideboard of the seat, at the front edge of the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of one end of a wagon -seat, having my improved iron applied thereto; Fig. 2, a top View of the main corner-iron detached; Fig. 3, views of the auxiliary cornerirons detached, and Figs. 4 and 5 perspective views of the seat corner-irons constructed with a shifting-rail.
A represents the seat, having the horizontal base-board a, of any proper construction, the inclined back-board a, and the inclined side-board a as shown. The back-board a and the side-board a are united to the backboard a at their lower edges in any proper manner, and these two are themselves secured together at the corner by any proper fastening devices.
B represents the main corner-iron, consisting of a flat metallic strip of L-shaped form, the short arm I) of which is adapted to cover the upper edge of the back-board a for a proper distance near the corner of the same, and the long arm I) of which is adapted to cover the edge of the side-board a throughout its entire extent, and also to project over the same both at the point b", at the front edge, and along the entire side, as indicated in dotted lines, Fig. 1. This iron, it will be observed, is provided with a series of openings, by means of which it may be strongly screwed to the edges of the back-board and side-board, asshown in Fig. 1.

represents a boss, having an opening for one of the irons of the shifting-rail, which boss may be provided with a rib, b, with projection b, if desired. This iron is strongly secured to the upper edges of the back and side boards by screws, as shown. The projections 12* are also properly secured by screws, as shown.
0 represents the auxiliary corner-iron, consisting of a metallic strip havingtwo nearlyequal arms bent at an obtuse angle, and provided at the angle with a right-angled pr0-, jection, c, as shown.
I secured to the front edge of the base-board a and side-board a, at the junction of the same, by means of screws, as shown. The projecner surface of the base-board and the sideboard at the joint. By means of the series of screw-openings in connection with the ribs 12 b the iron is strongly secured to the edges of the seat.
By means of the short ribs b b the proper metal is furnished for fastening purposes withform, having the series of screw openings, and the ribs b with short extensions, as and for the purpose described.
2. In combination with the main corneriron, the auxiliary corner-iron having the overhanging portion 0, as described.
