O. B. MAEDEL.
BUTTGN FASTENEB.
Patented Feb. 19, 1884.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. CHARLES BERNHARD MAEDEL, on KANSAS CITY, MIssounI.
BUTTON-FASTENER.)
SPECIFICATIQN forming part. of Letters Patent 1N0. 293,658, dated. February 19, 1884.
Application filed June 18, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES BERNHARD MAEDEL, of Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastenings for Buttons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and'exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention has for its object an improvement of the button-fastening for which Letters Patent of the United States were issued to me under date of December 19, 1882, and numbered 269,302, in that it may be produced at the least cost, and when fastening the button to the wearing material will afford addi tional security from removal and a decreased wearing-surface; and it consists in the novel construction of its several parts hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a plan View of the fastening device. Fig. 2 is a view in section of the fastening and button as secured to the fabric. Fig. 8 is a plan view of my improved disk. I
A represents a metallic disk having a central slot, a. B is an ear upon the disk. '0 is the bolt joined to the disk. D is the button. I In the construction of my invention I make in one operation, from any suitable material, the disk A, through the center of which is formed'a slot, or, and radially from the periphery of the disk an extension or bolt, 0. An auxiliaryextension or ear, B, from the periphery of the disk, in opposite relation to the extensionor bolt 0, is also made. After its insertion the disk A is placed over the eye e of the pin, upon the side of the material opposite to the button portion, the eye of the pin passing through the slot apf the disk. The exmaterial. A slight compression of the bolt 0 upon the disk A brings them in close contact.
The ear B is then bent over and drawn down upon the end of bolt 0, preventing the uplifting of said end, and affording a convenient and reliable fastener.
Having fully described my invention, what I now claim as new, and desire to secure by vLetters Patent, is--- i ting of a disk having a suitable slot therein and a radial ex-' 1. A button-fastener cons tension from the periphery of said disk, constituting the bolt, which is adapted to be bent over in the plane of said disk and in line with its slot and enter the 'eye of a button, and an auxiliary extension from the periphery of said disk, which is adapted to be bent over and upon the end of the'opposite extension of the disk, as shown and described.
2. In combination with a button having a suitable eye, a fastener consisting of a disk, and a slot in said disk to receive the eye of the button, and a radial extension from the periphery of said disk, constituting the bolt, which is adapted to be bent over in the plane of said disk and in line with its slot, and an auxiliary extension from theperiphery of said disk, which is adapted to be bent over and upon the opposite extension of the disk, as shown and described.
