Description

April 19, B. F. KAUFFMAN 2,933,353
OIL BURNER AIR CLEANER Filed Oct 10, 1958 United States Patent Ofice 2,933,153 Patented Apr. 19, 1960 OIL BURNER AIR CLEANER Benjamin F. Kauffman, Millersville, Pa. Application October 10, 1958, Serial No. 766,493 1 Claim. (Cl. 18344) This invention relates to heating equipment and more particularly to an oil burner assembly.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a filter unit for an injection type oil burner that will effectively filter the air supplied to the combustion unit so as to prevent clogging and blocking of the air passageways through the blower unit.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a filter unit for oil burners of the above type that may be readily attached to existing oil burner units to substantially reduce the amount of servicing, maintenance and cleaning of such oil burner assemblies and to provide for more efficient use of the fuel.
Other objects of the invention are to provide an oil burner air cleaner bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an oil burner assembly embodying an air cleaner made in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is an enlarged top plan view of a frame forming a part of the present invention;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the frame Work shown in Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a fragmentary rear elevational view of the frame work shown in Figure 2;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary front elevational view of the frame work shown in Figure 2; and
Figure 6 is a side elevational view of the frame work shown in Figure 2.
Referring now more in detail to the drawing, a filter unit 10 made in accordance with the present invention is shown in operative association with an injection type oil burner forming a component of a furnace 12.
The filter unit of the present invention includes a frame work that completely encloses the injection type oil burner unit that is usually mounted adjacent to the floor in the front wall of the furnace 12. This frame work is of substantially cubical configuration having a front frame 14 for engagement with the front side of the furnace 12, a pair of side frames 16 each defining a longitudinal guide way 18, a rear frame 22 including a pair of facing angle members defining a channel way 24, and a top frame that includes a pair of angle members 28 defining a horizontal guide way 30 overlying the front, rear, and side frames.
Since this unit is adapted to be mounted upon the floor and the front wall of the furnace 12, or above the floor when using a solid base panel only four sides of the frame work need to be enclosed with filter units in order to completely enclose the oil burner unit therewithin. A rectangular filter panel 20 is slidably placed within each side guide way 18 of the side frames 16, another filter panel 26 is placed within the guide Way 24 defined by the angle members 12 of the rear frame, and a fourth individual filter panel is placed within the guide way 30 defined by the top frame angle members 28. As a result, all entrances to the interior of this frame work are closed by such filter panels which filter the air passing inwardly into the blower portions of the oil burner unit.
This device may be readily packed and shipped in a knock down form, so as to be readily assembled for use whenever required. The filter panels are all preferably of the same size, also facilitating the replacement and cleaning thereof.
While various changes may be made in the detail constnlction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is:
A filter unit of substantially cubical configuration having separable, removable filters, all adapted to be packed and shipped in a knockdown form and for completely enclosing an injection type oil burner unit that is mounted adjacent the front wall of a furnace when in use comprising, a framework for completely enclosing an injection type oil burner assembly, said framework including two open sides, an open rear, an open front, and an open top, said side framework embodying longitudinal vertical guide ways, said rear frame work including a pair of horizontal, inwardly facing angle members defining a vertical channel Way, said top framework including a pair of angle members defining a horizontal guideway overlying the front, rear and side frameworks, filter units adapted to be slidably supported within said guideways and channel ways of each side, top and rear frameworks Within the cubical limits of the unit, and all of said filter units being interchangeable with each other for facilitating the replacement and cleaning thereof.
