F. W. MOORE.
EAR RING.
No. 293.268. Patented Feb. 12, 1884.
" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK \Y. MOORE, OF \VAUPUN, WISCONSIN.
EAR-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 293,268, dated February 112, 1884..
Application filed June 6, 1883.
To aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK W. Moons, a citizen of the United States,'residing at Waupun, in the county of Dodge and State of VVisconsin, have invented a new and useful Ear- Ring, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to improvements in the ring proper, or claspattacher, to the drop or pendantplate in ear-rings; and the objects of iny improvements are, first, to do away with the use of solder, with its attendant expense and heat; second, to preserve the temper and durability of the wires or bars fornr ing the ring; and, third, to-provide a springhinge, attached to its seat, at a-nominal expense of construction. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which is a perspective view of the entire device.
'XVith punch and die I cut and raise on the plate as the strapA. At-one end of the wire or bar y, I bend the loop B, and then pass the wire under the strap A, leaving the loop well out of the strap. I then pass one end of the wire or bar a under, from the back of, the loop B, and twist it through and aboutthe loop, thus forming the hinge joint B G, with the double'wire resting on the plate 00. The end of the wire is clipped and bent to form the tongue 0. I now draw the wire y forward through the strap until the loop and twist forming the hinge-joint B O are brought snugly against the edge of the strap A, in which poplete the ring and clasp.

. sharp bend 1), against the opposite edge of the strap. The Wires or bars 3/ z are then formed into thedesired shape and proportions to com- The tongue 0 is adapted, in connection with the flexible wire for its use as a spring-stop to. stiffen the clasp of the respective ends of the wires y 2.
Having thus shown thenature and construction of my device, I claim as my invention-- 1. In an ear-ring, the strap A, raised from the plate at, in combination with the bar 1 for the purposes set forth.
2. The combination of the loop B and coil 0, the bar y, bent at b, and strap A, raised from the plate at, as and for the purpose described. I,
3. In a spring-clasp for ear-rings, the combination of the bar 2, having a coil, 0, and tongue 0, with the bar y through the strap A of the plate as, and the loop B, as and for the purpose set forth. 3
4.. The combination, in a hinged and spring clasped earring, of the strap A on plate :0, the bar y, having bend b, and loop B, secured to the plate by means of the strap, the flexible bar z, having coil 0 and tongue 0, the loop' Witnesses:
