BY Ga United States C ice Application March7, 1957,.senn-Nos644sii1 3'' claims Ci; iii-=10)" This invention relates to a; display ornament in two sections which can be fastened to as desired. 7
One objectof my invention is to provide such a display o'rnariient with improved" meaii1 for' fasteningtlfe' sections to ether, and which" permits tneir unfifsteiiing. as
we'll, Byremivay simple and sure movements.
Another object is to provide supporting and positioning means in the lower portions of said sections whereby said sections may be placed in the correct position and then fastened together, said means also serving to support said sections in fastened position.
Still another object is to providemeans whereby an article may be removably hung within my ornament.
A further object is to provide such a display ornament, each section of which can be manufactured as a single, complete part, and at a relatively low cost, so that the finished ornament can be priced within the means of the average person. I
The foregoing and other objects which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be accomplished by a construction, combination and arrangement of parts such as is disclosed by the drawing. The nature of the invention is such as to render it susceptible to various changes and modifications, and therefore, I am not to be limited to the construction disclosed by the drawing nor to the particular parts described in the specification; but am entitled to all such changes therefrom as fall within the scope of my claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a top plan view of my ornament with the sections in assembled position.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of said ornament.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged, sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
As illustrated my separable display ornament is ballshaped, and has a left section having an open body shown with various ribs 12, called longitudinal ribs, extending between the top and bottom, and other ribs 13 extending laterally and connected to said ribs 12. The body of said left section 10 has an almost circular, rim portion 14 which bounds most of the body at the open or joining extremity thereof, and said ribs are integral with it. This rim portion 14 constitutes the joining edge of said left section in position of use.
Said rim 14 joins an arcuate collar portion 16, as do said ribs 12, and a loop 18 extends upwardly from said collar portion, in positio'n of use, whereby my ornament may be hung, as on a Christmas tree branch.
Attached to a center said rib 12 is a suspension bar 20 extending below and adjacent said collar portion 16.
which bar also extends laterally beyond said rim 14 and outside said section 10, serving as a support to hang a gift or bell or other article thereon.
getli'ei", and" separated,
Patented 23, 1960 A aeireate are ama s-id center'rib l'z, as is the susn'liar 20; butatth'ebo fsaidsec'tion' 10; is a id s' o '2 t at e ds l te lvfi vofidiS d" rim 14 f 10, and whicliissupported by a p portion" 23 forming part fsaid center riblz. There ar four t ch h il gs pa ed p rt a d each h'a'saj tongue portion 2 4 marisnxeja to and extends outwardly beyond said section l ll from the iiiner, radial sur- I 14. A short offset penis-11 26? extends at a right angle to s'aid'-tongue portion 24, and at a right anglefioififltlie latter" a finishingp'ortion' 28 extends that form'stheouter endof s'aida 'ivingfla finished int since said po'" ifo'ii28 lines up .,w1 tli the1nner, peri heral surface df'sffidri'rr'tportion14 atfloppo'site ends of a cutoiit 40 1 er'des'cr'ilie'd'. This consruction' leaves" a space outside sat tongue portion 24' w i'ch is between the outer facejo'f s'a'" m portion 14 and said offset portion 26.
My rnament: has right section 30- that is similar in appearance f0 said left" section It), although not the same in all respects. .This right section" 3'0"has' an open body shown with longitudinal ribs 32 that are similar to said longitudinal ribs 12 in shape and position, and with lateral ribs 33 similar to said lateral ribs 13 in shape and po'sition. Thus the ribs 12 and 13 of said left section appear to be continuous with said ribs 32 and 33 respectively of said right section, except for the inner rims 14 and 34 and collar portions. 7
The body of said right section 30 has a rim portion 34 that bounds most of the body at the open or joining extremity thereof, and provides a face joining edge of said right section, that is flush with the face of said left section inner rim 14 when the two sections 10 and 30 are fastened together.
A collar portion 36 of said section 30 is similar to and matches said collar portion 16 of section 10, to complete a collar for my ornament.
Lower than, and adjacent to, said collar portion 36, is an abutment po'rtion 38 that extends laterally from a said center rib 33. When said two sections 10 and 30 are joined, said suspension bar 20 is close to, or abuts, said abutment portion 38 to thereby retain an article hung on said bar 20.
Four recesses or cut-outs 40 are provided in said rim 34 which extend from the inner edge thereof about halfway into the rim. These cut-outs 40 are spaced apart a predetermined distance to receive said lug offset portions 26, when'the two half sections 10 and 30 are joined. Said lug offset portion 26 is inserted inwardly of said rim 34- and it enters a said cut-out 40, while the narrowed portion of said rim 34, adjoining said cut-out, enters the space between the outer edge of said rim 14 and said offset portion 26, contacting said tongue portion 24. Thus the peripheral surfaces of said rims 14 and 34 present an even surface broken only by a line where the faces of said rims 14 and 34 meet.
A receptacle portion 42, having an opening 44, is provided in said section 30 where a said longitudinal rib 32 joins said rim 34 at the lower part of my ornament. Said joining pin 22 is adapted to enter said receptacle opening 44 thus providing positioning means to bring the two sections 10 and 30 together, in the first step of assembling them, and also supporting the assembly.
Since the sections are made of plastic, or other material that is somewhat fiexible, when the said pin 22 is in the said opening 44, said lugs may be sprung into and out of attaching position in said section 30 by pressing some part of the latter, such as one of said ribs, and deforming it slightly. Since all parts of a said section are integral, their natural resiliency insures them return to normal position.
one said section embodying a suspension bar integral with and extending from an upper portion of a said rib laterally beyond said Section, the other said sectionembodying a member extending frorn'an upper portion of a said rib thereof to a point in alinement with and adjacent said suspension bar when said sections are together.
2. An'ornament comprising two sections, means to detachably fasten said sections together, one said section embodying a suspension bar extending from an upper portion of said section and embodying a pin member extending from a lower portion of "said section, the other said section'embodying a member extending from an upper portion of said section and being ,directlyopposite said suspension bar when said sections are together, said other section also embodying a receptacle Portion extending laterally from a lower portion, of the latter-mentioned section and having an opening therein directly opposite and adapted to receive said 'pin member when 7 said sections are together.
3. An ornament comprising two sections, means to detachably fasten said sections together, each said section embodying a plurality of ribs extending from and between the npper and lower portions of said ornament, one said section embodying a suspension bar integral with and extending from an upper portion of a said rib laterally beyond said section-andembodying a pin member integral with and extending from a lower portion of the latter said rib laterally beyond said section, the other said section embodying .a member extending from an upper portion'of a said ribthereof and being directly opposite and adjacent said suspension bar when said sections are together, said other section also embodying a receptacle portion extending laterally from a lower portion of the latter-mentioned rib and having an opening therein directly opposite and adapted to receive said pin member when said sections are together.
