CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No 291,333, cated Januaty 1, 1884,
Application filed Maroh 21, 1883. (Nomodelo To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, CATHARINE A. GRIs- WOLD, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corsets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of the same, it being a perspective View of the inside of a corset containing my improvement.
My invention consists in a corset having breast-pockets adapted to hold pads in place by means of eyelets and lacings at the top, 8X, tending from the back to the front portions of the pockets, as hereinafter set forth.
To form each pocket, I take a piece of suitable fabric, a, corresponding in dimensions to the bust or breast-swell a of the corset, and sew it around its sides and bottom edges to the insideof the corset, immediately over the breast-swells, leaving the upper edge, d, un-
attached. In this upper edge I insert eyelets .0, and provide corresponding eyelets in the body of the corset, near its upper edge, and into the eyelets insert a lacing-cord, d, which extends from the back to the front portions of the pocket, as shown. There is thus formed a pocket, in which is placed a breast-pad. e, of any desired material, inclosed in a cloth en- .velope or case of the proper dimensions. The pocket, with its lacings, serves to hold the pad securely in place, and the pad may be readily inserted in it or removed from it. If preferred. the said pocket may be madeby means of a lining, cut into separate pieces, conforming in shape with the pieces constituting the front portion of the corset. Such a lining is shown in the shading.
The described pocket, provided with the eyelets and lacing ends for closing the upper end of the pocket after the pad is inserted, is of course formed in each half of the corset.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to
