Another object of the present invention is to provide aloom attachment in accordance with the preceding object in which the various elements of the attachment are adjustable so that the movement of the dividing rod for the warp yarn may be so timed for tightening or slackening the warp threads in the various sheds of a pattern.
Other objects of the present invention will reside in its simplicity of construction, ease of attachment to existing loom structures, adaptation for its particular purpose and its relatively inexpensive manufacturing and maintenance cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention schematically illustrating the present invention attached to a loom;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 22 of Figure 1 illustrating the details of construction of the eccentric mechanism and the connecting rod;
Figure 3 is a group perspective view illustrating the bracket means for the dividing rod of the present invention;
Figure 4 is a group perspective view illustrating the eccentric means for attachment to a power shaft on a loom;
Figure 5 is a detailed perspective view illustrating the rocker shaft with a laterally extending arm for supporting one end of the oscillating dividing rod; and
Figure 6 is a transverse, vertical sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing alongsection line 6--6 of Figure 5 illustrating the details of construction of the oscillating dividing or split rod.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates the loom attachment of the present invention which includes a pair of brackets 12 with one of the brackets being attached to the left side and the other of the brackets being attached to the right side of the loom and these brackets or bearings 12 are mounted on the back horn of the loom generally designated by the numeral 14. Each of the brackets 12 is 2,912,014 I Patented .Nov. 10, 1959 '2 provid d ,with a plate 16 having an "aperture 18%fo'r supporting a rod "holder 20 having .a longitudinal slot 22 therein for receiving a fastening bolt 24. The upper end of the rod holder 20 is provided with a'p'a'ir of vertically spaced laterally extending sockets 26 and 28 for supporting transversely extending rods 30' and 32 which are the support rods for the warp threads and the slot 22 in the holder 20 permits vertical adjustment of the supporting rods 30 and 32 for varying the vertical elevation of the warp threads as they pass between the'ro'd's tion is an aperture 40 for mounting an L-shaped cap 42 having a slot 44 therein in the vertical leg for receiving a fastening bolt for adjusting the horizontal portion 'of the retainer cap 42 in relation to the open end .of'th'e U- shaped recess36 for retaining the rocker shaft 38 in the recess 36. The horizontal portion of the L-shaped retaining cap 42 is provided with a laterally extendin'gqportion 46 having a concave recess 48in 'theunder surface thereof for, .bearing engagement against the upper .sur-
face of the rocker shaft 38 thereby retaining the rocker shaft 38'within the recesses 36 in the oppositelydisposed brackets 12.
Referringnow specifically to Figures 5 and 6,'it will be seen that a pair of otfsetarms 50 are provided on the rocker shaft 38 with the arms 50 being disposed adjacent the ends of the shaft 38 in spaced relation to the brackets 12. Each of the arms 50 includes a cylindrical portion 52 encircling the shaft 38 and adjustably secured thereto by a setscrew '54. Extending from the cylindrical portion 52' is a shank portion 56 terminating in a U-shaped end portion 58 which has one leg thereof integral with the shank 56 and opens upwardly for receiving an elongated divider rod60. A closure cap -62 is provided for the U-shaped end portion 58 and'bridges the free ends of. the legs and the cap -62 is detachably secured to the free ends of the legs of the U-shaped end portion 58 by fastening bolts 64. A setscrew 66 extends through the center of the closure cap 62 and engages the divider rod 60 formounting said divider rod 60 in rigid relation to the lateral arms 50 for swinging movement about the axis of the rocker shaft 38 in an oscillatory manner for dividing the warp threads or yarn 68 after it passes over the beam 70 supported on bracket extensions 72. 7
As illustrated in Figure l, the end of the shaft 38 is provided with an offset arm 74 adjustably secured thereto by a setscrew 76 and provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced apertures 78 therein for attachment to one end of an elongated connecting rod 80. The connecting rod 80 is screw threaded into a socket 82 in the end of an adapter 84 and is held in adjusted position thereon by a jamb nut 86. A bolt 88 extends through an aperture 90 in the free end of the adapter 84 and through a bearing member 92 and one of the apertures 78 in the offset arm 74 thereby adjustably and pivotally securing the connecting rod 80 to the arm 74. The other end of the connecting rod 80 is threaded as designated by the numeral 94 and is in screw threaded engagement in a socket 96 in a cam follower 98. The screw threaded portion 94 is retainedin the socket 96 by employing a jamb nut 100 and the cam follower 98 includes an annular portion 102 and a stud 104 integral therewith in which the socket 96 is formed. The annular ring 102 cm circles a cylindrical member 106 having an eccentrically disposed transverse bore 108 therein which is secured to principles of the invention.
a power shaft 110 on the loom by setscrews 112 which project through a lateral boss 114 on the earn 106 whereby the position of cam 106 on the shaft 110 may be ,angularly adjusted. One side of the cam 106 is provided with a projecting peripheral, flange 116 and the other side thereof is provided with a removable plate 118 secured thereon by removable screw threaded fasteners 120 whereby the cam follower 98 will be retained on the cam 106 by the flanges 116 and the plate 118.
In practical operation of the invention, the split rod or divider rod 60 and the rocker shaft 38 oscillate from a position substantially in alignment with the direction of movement of the warp threads 68 to a position substantially perpendicular thereto wherein the warp threads 68 will be further divided or separated from each other thereby preventingentanglemem and breakage of the warp threads'which occurs frequently when forming cloth with relatively heavy, warp threads.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the 8 Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention tothe exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be restored to, falling within the scope of theinvention asclaimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows: 1; In combination with a loom having a frame beam and drop wires with warp threads extending from the beam to the drop wires, a warp thread separating device comprising a pair of spaced parallel rod members rigidly interconnected, one of said rod members being pivotally mounted on the frame of the loom, said rod members being disposed with a portion of the warp threads overlying the same and a portion of the warp threads underlying' the same, and means oscillating said one rod member about its longitudinal axis for disposing the rod members in substantially vertical spaced relation for separating the warp threads, said means including an offset arm on said one rod member, eccentric means adapted to be driven by a power shaft on a loom comprising a cam eccentrically mounted on a power shaft of said loom, a cam follower in the form of a closed loop encircling said cam and adapted to be adjustably connected to said arm for oscillating the one rod member upon rotation of the eccentric means.
2. An attachment for a loom for separating the warp yarn comprising eccentric means adapted to be connected to a power shaft on a loom, a connecting rod having one end operatively connected to said eccentric means, a pair of brackets disposed at opposite sides of the loom, a rocker shaft journaled in said bracket, an offset arm attached to one end of said rocker shaft, said connecting rod being connected to said ofi'set arm for oscillating said rocker shaft about its longitudinal axis, a pair of laterally extending arms secured to said rocker shaft, and a dividing rod supported on the lateral arms for vertical oscillation betweenthe warp yarn to separate the warp yarn after it leaves the beam and before it reaches the drop wires of the loom thereby reducing the frequency of Warp thread breakage when using relatively heavy yarn, said connecting rod being adjustably connected to the offset arm, said eccentric means being adjustably connected to the drive shaft, and the lateral arms being adjustably mounted on the rocker shaft for permitting timing of the movement of the dividing rod in relation to the loom for tightening or slackening the warp threads in different sheds, each of said lateral arms including a U-shaped end portion having one leg thereof connected to the end of the arm, a removable closure member interconnecting the legs of the U-shaped end portion, and clamp bolt extending through said closure member for locking said rod and said end portion, each of said brackets including a horizontal portion having a U-shaped recess rotatably receiving said rocker shaft, and a retainer adjustably connected to said bracket for holding the rocker shaft in the recess, said retainer having a recess in the lower surface thereof for engaging the rocker shaft.
