To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MICHAL GULACZYNSKI, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, and a resident of New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Weaving-Machines, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in looms for weaving textile fabric, and particularly to that type of devices known as warp-openers.

The principal object of the invention is to provide means whereby the warp threads are held in a separated condition so that mending the strands of the yarns may be facilitated and interengagement prevented.

Another object is to provide such a device .in the form of an attachment readily applicable to looms of ordinary construction without material change in their structure.

These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a component part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view, illustrating the upper portion of an ordinary form of hand loom, and indicating the application of the invention.

In the drawings, the warp yarn roll or beam is indicated by the numeral 10, the same being at the extreme rear of the loom, a cloth beam 12 being at the front, a harness 14: by which the heddle frames 15 are actuated being operated by the alternate motion of the treadles 16 and 17 so that the heddles in which the yarn strands are individually contained are alternately raised and lowered, permitting the entrance of the shuttle 18 by means of which the filling is supplied between the warp threads in advance of the reed 19. Thus .far the description is applicable for any" ordinary form of loom.

Usually between the harness frame and the yarn beams are leash rods, for which, in the present invention, are substituted a bar 22 having engaged by means of the hinges 23 and 2 1, semi-elliptical leaves 25 and 26 extending rearward transversely between the threads of the warp as it passes over the warp beam 10.

Pivotally attached to the outer ends of the leaves or openers 25 and 26, are links 27 and 28, engaged with the lever 30, pivoted at 31 midway between the points of link attachment and having another link 32 at its end extending in such manner as to be en gaged by the connecting lever 33, pivoted at its end 34 and actuated by a cam 35 through apin 36 in such manner that reciprocating motion may be communicated to it, the cam being of proper size to operate the openers to their fullest extent or close them together, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.

As the cam 35 is rotated at each alternate movement of the heddles, and corresponding reed action, the threads are prevented from matting or interengaging, each alternate thread passing over the opener while the other passes below as will be clearly apparent.

Thus it will be seen that the entire device may be installed upon looms of ordinary construction without entailing material change in their structure and without involving a great expense, as the parts are all of simple condsltruction, cheaply made, and easily operate It will furthermore be apparent that the use of the openers permits ready access to any thread, and that the yarns are prevented from uniting in their passage from the beam to the heddle frame.
