FOLDING COT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,584, dated December 4;, 1883.
Application filed August 28, 1883.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved folding cot for use in hotels, hospitals, 8m.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures. Figure l is a longitudinal elevation of my improved cot. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same on the line as m, Fig. 2. I
Two pairs of legs, A, are united at the upper ends by longitudinal rails 13, and the legs of each end are crossed and pivoted in the usual manner. The legs are also united at the free ends and at the intersections by bracerods 0. A quilted bottom or sheet, D, which is lined and then partly-stuffed with cotton batting, 850., is secured directly to the longitudinal rails B or to a canvas bottom. A pillow, E, is provided at each end with one or (Modem more slotted projecting tongues, a, made of leather. canvas, or any other suitable material. Screws or pins F, provided at the outer ends with heads, project from the top of the rails B, near one end. The heads of the pins or screws F are passed through the slots in the tongues a, and thus hold the pillow in place on the cot, as shown.- The pillow can be removed from the cot very easily and readily.
As the bottom of the cot is quilted,no extra mattress is required, and the cot is more convenient and easy for the person occupying it. It can be folded very compactly, which is not the case with a cot provided with a fixed mattress.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with a folding cot having projecting pins or screws F, of the pillow E, provided with slotted tongues wat the ends, substantially as herein shown and described.
