Description

(No Model.) r I 7 J; G, HARRINGTON.
BRACELET.
Iva -289,531. 'P-a'tente d Deb. 4, 1883.
UNITED STATES I PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN G. HARRINGTON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
BRACELET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,531, dated December 4, 1883.
Application filed May 26, 1883. (No model.)
have invented an Improvement in Bracelets,
of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of bracelets which are made of a single band of hollow wire, and are securely clasped at their ends by means of the resilience of the wire of which the bracelet is formed; and it consists in an improved clasp for securing the ends of such bracelets, as hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bracelet with the ends unclasped. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the bracelet closed. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the under side of the clasp. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the under side of the clasp provided with a back piece.
In the drawings, A is the spring hollow wire of the bracelet, at one end of which is secured the ornament B, and to the other end the ball or knob C. An opening, D, is provided in the base of the ornament B to receive the knob O, and a notch, 11, is made in the side of the ornament to receive the wire A of the bracelet.
In clasping the bracelet upon the wrist, the end of the wire A which carries the knob O is to be pressed downward, inorder that the knob may be made to enter the opening D, and the resilience of the spring-wire of the bracelet will raise the knob into the opening D until the wire A adjoining the knob brings up at the bottom of the notch (1, thus forming acornpletefastening for the two ends. of the bracelet, the knob 0 being concealed withinthe ornament B. I
Fig. 3 shows an ornament provided with a back, E, which is cut out with an opening, D, to receive the knob, and in carrying out my 0 improvement the ornament B may be used either with or without a back E.
I claim as my invention-- The combination of the hollow spring-wire A, bent in bracelet form, with the knob O, 45 located at one extreme end of the wire, and the ornament B, located at the other extreme end of the Wire, and provided with the opening D and notch d, adapted to receive the knob G and wire A of the bracelet, to form a clasp, 50 substantially as described.
