BRACELET.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,041, dated September 18, 1883. Application filed April 18, 1883. (No model.)

.To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, THOMAS KING, of the city and county of Providence, in the State of Bhode Island, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bracelets; and I declare the following to be' a specification thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

My invention is an improved bracelet made of two sections of hollow wire, whose inner ends engage loosely bya spur and are hinged to aspring-back, as hereinafter fully specified.

Two sections or bands, A B, of hollow wire, of gold or gold-plated stock, are joined by hinges a b to the spring 0. The spring 0 is made of tempered sheet metal, bent rectangularly, as shown in Fig. 1. The inner ends of the bands A B meet within said bent spring, where they are held in contact by the spur c of the section B entering into the open end of the section A. The spur c, on its inner face,

is made round, allowing the free play of the section A over it, but keeping the parts to- At the end of the band B is a socket, D, to receive the end d of the band A when the bracelet is closed.

Thebracelet, when closed, is shown in solid lines in Fig. 1, and the position of the parts when the bracelet is open is indicated in the same figure by dotted lines. In opening the bracelet the spur 0 serves as a fulcrum, while the bands A and B, by their leverage, spread apart the ends of the spring 0. In closing the bracelet the parts A B return to their former position, and the force of the spring 0 holds the end din the socket D with sufficient firmness. Instead, however, ofusingthe socket D to receive the opposite end of the bracelet, the two ends may pass each other and lie in juxtaposition.

The spring 0 is to be covered and concealed by any suitable ornamentation.

I claim as a novel and useful invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In aspring-bracelet, the spur c, fixed upon the band-section B and adapted to enter the inner open end of the band-section A for the purpose of keeping said sections in engagement, and to serve as a fulcrum for the leverage of said sections in operating the spring 0, substantially as specified.

2. The improved bracelet herein described, consisting of the sections A B, the spring 0, socket D, hinges a b and spur 0, arranged and operating together substantially as specified.
