Claims. c1. 2-159 This invention relates to improvements in finger gloves, having particular reference to a collapsible and expansible cavity portion in the back side thereof in the area of any finger on which a ring may be worn to accommodate the ring setting, and the provision of such a glove is the principal object of the invention.

It is well known that many finger rings having bulbous settings of signets or jewels, are worn with difliculty and discomfort with tight fitting gloves, and also are placed on the hand and stripped therefrom with difiiculty, doing damage to the glove, the ring sometimes being stripped from the finger and lost upon removal of the glove.

Generally, it is an object to overcome such difficulties and disadvantages by the provision of a glove that is economic of manufacture, simple yet sturdy and durable of construction, and which can be worn with ease and facility with such types of rings.

More specifically, it is an object of the invention to provide such a finger glove comprising a collapsible and expansible cavity portion in the back side thereof in the area of the ring finger between the second and third joints of said finger in order to expand and receive a ring setting of a ring when worn by the user of the glove and to collapse when the glove is worn without such a ring.

Another specific object of the invention is to provide such a cavity portion that is molded.

Another specific object of the invention is to provide such a glove in which the cavity portion is established by a gusset.

Other specific objects of the invention are the provision of such a glove in which the gusset consists of pleated wing members, in which the wing members are angular in configuration and with cut-out portions of similar configuration to receive the same and to be secured together by a suitable seam; and in which such seamsare either of the welt type with a running stitch, or an edge abutting seam with a cross stitch.

Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.

The invention accordingly comprises an article of manufacture possessing the features, properties, and the relation of elements which will be exemplified in the article hereinafter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claims.

For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a glove embodied by the invention illustrating its expanded condition in the area of the ring finger when worn with a ring;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary view further illustrating the construction in the area of the ring finger with a ring shown in dotted line position around a finger;

Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken along the lines 3-3 and looking in the direction of the arrows;

Fig. 4 is a similar fragmentary view showing the collapsed condition of the glove when worn without a ring;

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, there is shown generally at 10 a preferred type of finger glove embodied by the invention. Such a glove comprises a back side portion 11 and a palm side portion 12. The two portions are peripherally seamed together in any suitable manner, such as by stitching, as indicated at 13, such seam extending from one side 14 of the hand insert- .ing portion 15, extending around all of the fingers and thumb as indicated, to the other side 16 of the hand inserting portion, thereby providing finger side walls 17 and thumb side wall 18 with finger crotches 19 and a thumb crotch 20.

In the area of the ring finger between adjacent crotches, and between the second and third joints of the ring finger when disposed in such a glove there is indicated generally at 21 an expandible and collapsible cavity. Such cavity is provided by a gusset 22 stitched in position between the peripheral seam 13 and a cut-out portion of similar configuration in the side walls of the ring finger, such stitching being indicated at 23 and 24. The gusset, or gussets, 22 are of a size to permit pleating or overfolding of the central portions thereof as indicated at 25 in Figs. 4 and 5 so that the cavity formed by such gussets will be in collapsed position when worn without a ring. However, when such a glove is worn with a ring having a substantially large signet or jewel in the setting the glove portion in the area of the ring finger will readily and easily be permitted to expand into a cavity suitable therefor as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 so that the glove can be placed upon the hand with ease and facility and the ring worn without discomfort. Also, such an expansible cavity prevents tearing of the glove by the ring and permits the glove more readily to be stripped from the hand as well as tending to eliminate the possibility of unknowingly stripping the ring from the finger therewith so that the ring will not become lost.

The stitching shown at 23 and 24 is of the running kind and provides a strong welt type of seam.

In Fig. 6 the back side of the glove 11 in the area of the ring finger shows angular Wing members 26 that are integrally connected to the back side portion 11 and provided with fold lines 27. Such type of gusset is fitted into a finger side wall construction 17 that has cut-out portions of similar configuration to receive the wing members 26, and preferably such members are fitted into the cut-out portions in edge abutting alignment and secured together by means of cross stitching 28 whereby an expansible and collapsible cavity is provided. Such a construction, illustrating a ring in dotted line position is shown in Fig. 7. 1

In Fig. 8 the back side of the glove in the same area of the ring finger may be provided with a molded cavity 29 and such cavity may be utilized as a supplementary cavity when employed with either type of gusset above described, or if such a cavity is of sufi'icient magnitude it can be employed per se without the use of additional gussets.

Since certain changes may be made in the above article and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a finger glove, the improvement comprising a back side portion and a palm side portion peripherally seamed together from one side of the hand inserting opening to the other side thereof providing side walls between each finger and the crotch thereof, and a collapsible and expansible cavity portion in the back side thereof in the area of the ring finger of a wearer between the second and third joints of said finger, which cavity is provided by a gusset, said gusset comprising lateral Wing members extending from said back side portion in said area and cut-out portions of similar configuration in said palm side portion in said area seamed together between and as part of said peripheral seam, whereby to expand and receive a ring setting of a ring when worn by the user of the glove and to collapse when the glove is worn without a ring.

2. In a finger glove as defined in claim 1, and further characterized in that the wing members of said gusset are pleated to amplify the size of said cavity upon expansion.

3. In a finger glove as defined in claim 1, and further characterized in that said wing members are angular in configuration and said cut-out portions are correspondingly angular in configuration.

4. In a finger glove as defined in claim 1, and further characterized in that said peripherally seamed together portions in said area provide a welt seam with a running stitch.

5. In a finger glove as defined in claim 1, and further characterized in that said peripherally seamed together portions in said area provide an edge abutting seam with a cross stitch.
