Description

Feb. 17, 1959 B. scHKFER DEODORIZING DEVICE Filed Jan. 8, 1957 .lm emon' 33mm 502.4% 0131 U United States Patent This invention relates to air freshening, sweetening, neutralizing, perfuming, sterilizing, moth-proofing, insect repelling or otherwise air treating devices commonly known as deodorizing devices.
More particularly stated, this invention relates to deodorizing devices of the air circulating type. In this type the air to be treated passes through a casing adapted to receive the odorizing body.
A known device for insect repelling comprises a pair of telescopic members in rotative relation and adapted to present a series of registering apertures or parts from which the vapors may issue into the surrounding. By turning one of the members the apertures may be closed or opened respectively.
It is a primary object of the invention to provide a deodorizing device which will be most simple in structure, cheap to manufacture, easy to install on any smooth surface without necessitating screws, nails or the like, and which is especially adapted for use in motor vehicles, airplanes or the like wherever mechanically moved air is at hand.
According to the invention this object as well as others are achieved by providing a cylindrical casing which consists of a rear and a front member having telescopingly and rotatively engaging cylinder walls each of which having at least two diametrically opposed apertures adapted to register upon rotation of the front member. Centrally fastened to the rear member there is a suction cup, made of resilient material, such as rubber, polyvinyl ester or the like, which extends with a projection through the rear face wall into the interior of the casing. The centre of this projection is provided with a cavity, serving as the female part of a pushbutton while a central extension of the front casing member serves as the male part of a pushbutton thus holding the casing members resiliently and rotatively together. The central extension of the front casing member is at the same time adapted to receive the deodorizing body.
With these objects in view together with others which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the novel formation, combination and arrangement of parts all as will be described more fully hereinafter, illustrated in the drawing and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In said drawings Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section of the device being attached to the wind shield of a motor car in front of a ventilating air channel,
Figure 2 is a front view of the device in open position,
Figure 3 is the rear casing member viewed towards the inlet opening,
Figure 4 is a plan view of the rear of the suction cup, Figure 5 is a longitudinal view of the rear casing member showing the manner of attaching the suction cup thereto,
Figure 6 is a longitudinal section of the deodorizing body,
ice
Figure 7 is a longitudinal section of the front casing member.
The casing having a circular and relatively flat form is preferably made of plastic material and consists of a rear and a from member 1 or 2 respectively.
p A suction cup 3 known per se made of resilient material such as rubber, plastic material or the like is fastened to the rear member 1 by forcing a flange 4. of the suction cup through a square hole in the face wall 5 of the rear member 1.
A cavity 6 centrally arranged in that part of the suction cup 3 extending into the casing is provided with an annular lip 7 adapted to receive a flangelike head 8 of an extension 9 being centrally arranged and projecting from the inside of the front casing member 2. Near its root the extension 9 is reinforced by ribs 10.
The rear member 1 has a cylindrical wall 11 which is slightly conical on the inside and adapted to receive a cylinder wall 12 of the front casing member 2 being slightly conical on the outside to fit into the rear casing member 1.
An inlet opening for the air to be treated has been arranged in the wall 11 of the rear casing member which is surrounded funnellike on three sides by a projecting wall 14.
An outlet opening 15 is arranged diametrically opposite of the inlet opening 13. Corresponding apertures 16 and 17 have been arranged in the cylinder wall 12 of the front casing member 2.
A mark 18 has been provided at the front side of the wall 14 of the rear casing member. The face wall of the front casing member 2 extends flangelilte over the cylinder wall 1?. offering a good grip when actuating this part. in the middle plane of the apertures 16 and 17 marks 19 and 249 have been provided near the circumference of the face wall of the front casing member 2 which upon registering with the mark 18 indicate that the apertures l3, l6 and i5, 17 are in line and fully open for the passage of air therethrough. The deodorizing body 22 made of felt, blotting paper or the like is of circular shape having a centre hole 21 adapted to be placed on the extension 9 of the front casing member 2. This deodorizing body may be saturated with perfume, insect repelling fluid or the like.
In open position of the apertures 13, 16, 15, 17 indicated by registration of the marks 18, 19 or 18, it} respectively the air to be treated passes the interior of the casing coming in contact with the deodorizing body 22 and leaving the casing enriched with vapors of deodorant fluid.
The deodorizing device according to the invention is fastened to the inside'of a wind shield 23 by means of suction cup 3 in a manner known per se adjacent to the outlet of an air channel 24.
I claim:
