(ci. 24S- 262) rl`his invention relates to dwellings and other habitable structures, the interiors of whichare rendered attractive and artistic by the addition of draperies and other accessories which are useful as well as ornamental. More particularly, the invention relates to the method of supporting such draperies and accessories.

The invention is concerned especially with hangers or hooks by means of which draperies are .supported within buildings composed of masonry `or other material into which screws cannot readilybeinserted as Well as to buildings where the problem of hanging draperies is complicated by the use of `Venetian blinds.

Drapery hangers and hooks have been installed in buildings of masonry and other relatively hard material by means of lead anchors, toggle bolts and other fittings in which special tools have been employed and this involved expenditure of substantial time and expense as Well as inconvenience. p

It is an object of the invention to overcome the dificulties above enumerated and'to simplifyl and reduce the effort, time and expense previouslyrequired in the hanging of draperies in connection with Venetian blinds by providing a simple and inexpensive hanger capable of being readily and inexpensively produced, and easily installed in a minimum otptime by unskilled labor and without special tools. Another object of the invention is to provide a drapery hanger manufactured from a single blank or piece of metal which can be hooked onto the boxing at the upper end of a Venetian blind and secured thereto by tightening a wing nut through the bottom of the hanger into contact with the bottom of the boxing and with the surface of the hanger relatively smooth when Viewed from the adjacent end of the blind. Y

A further object of the invention is a drapery hanger which may readily be attached to the boxing of a Vene tian blind and with such hanger having means for receiving and adjustably holding a drapery rod with such rod held internally and without external projections and by means of which a rod may be quickly and easily applied and removed without use of tools.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Briefly stated the drapery hanger of the present invention comprises a bracket having a substantially rectangular base with its upper end bent rearwardly to provide a hook-forming extension and its lower end bent laterally and having a wing screw threaded therethrough so that the device may be clamped onto the boxing at the top of a Venetian blind. An arm is disposed at right angles to the base of the bracket, such arm having a horizontal upper edge and inclined lower edge and supporting at its outer end a substantially rectangular rodengaging portion having its upper and lower extremities Icurved forwardly to engage and conform to a hollow rod for supporting curtains, draperies, or the like, such rod-engaging portion having an opening receiving a wing screw which extends through the slot along the face of the hollow drape rod and being threadedly engaged with a nut having opposed lateral offesi portions located in the slot in the rod and preventing rotation of the nut when the wing screw is tightened to draw the parts together in assembled relation. The bracket and hollow drape rod are capable of being applied and removed by the mere turning of a couple of wing screws.

With continued reference to the drawing, the present invention comprises a bracket having a base or mounting portion 10 of substantially rectangular shape with a spacing arm 11 and an object engaging and supporting portion 12. The base 10 is substantially rectangular and is of a length slightly longer than the front vertical dimension of the boxing or upper end portion of the Venetian blind so that ends of the base may be employed for mounting the baseon the Venetian blind.

To do this the upper end portion of the base is bent over at right angles to the body to provide a hook 13 adapted to be disposed over the boxing of the Venetian blind and the lower end of the base is bent in the same general direction at right angles to its body to provide a ledge 14 adapted to extend beneath the bottom of the boxing of the Venetian blind. The ledge 14 is provided with a pair of internally threaded openings 15 for the reception of two externally threaded wing screws 16 adapted to engage the underside of the boxing of the Venetian blind. Thus, the base 10 of the bracket can be securely fixed in position.

The arm 11 has its upper edge 17 located at right angles to the edge of the base 10 so that it will be in horizontal position when the bracket is applied. The bottom edge 13 of the arm 11 is inclined from the lower end of the base toward the upper edge 17 of said arm and with the length of such arm suicient to space a drape rod the proper distance from the upper Venetian blind boxing on which the bracket is attached. At its end the arm 11 carries the support 12 for a drape rod. This support is of generally rectangular shape like that of the base 10 and is provided with upper and lower

19 and 20 to receive the curved drape rod and to extend slightly beneath and slightly above such drape rod. The supporting end of the bracket 12 is preferably provided with an Vopening 21 for the reception of a wing screw 22 having a washer 23 which engages the rear face of the drape rod supporting portion of the bracket and likewise engages the internally threaded opening 24 of a locking nut 25 having lateral fingers 26.

The locking nut 25 is adapted to be disposed within a hollow drape rod 27 having spaced edges providing a slot 28 along its rear face in which the lingers 26 of the nut project and prevent rotation or the latter. The drape rod 27 is of conventional construction and is provided with end members 29 having lateral extensions 30 of slightly less length so that such end members may be disposed in the drape rods with the end portion longer or shorter, depending upon the width of the upper end or boxing 31 of a Venetian blind having slats 32 with tapes 33 and cords 34.

A pair of bracket assemblies may be employed to support a drape rod, one preferably near each end of the Venetian blind so that in applying the drape rod it can be placed on one end and then slipped onto the other, while the wing screw and locking member are still in position.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention, without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is shown in the drawings and described in* the specification, but only as indicated in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. A drapery hanger comprising a bracket having a substantially rectangular mounting portion with a hookforming extension at its upper end and a lateral ledgeforming extension at its lower end so that said bracket may be engaged over the upper portion of the boxing of a Venetian blind with said lateral ledge-forming extension located beneath said boxing, an integral arm disposed at right angles to said mounting portion and having a substantially horizontally disposed upper edge and an inclined lower edge, an integral substantially rectangular rod-en gaging portion of reduced size at the outer end of said arm and with its upper and lower ends curved to conform to the curvature of a hollow oval-shaped draping rod having a slot along one side, said rod-engaging portion having an opening, a wing screw in said opening, a clamping nut adapted to be engaged by said wing screw, said clamping nut having lateral offset portions of a width to be disposed in said slot in said rod for supporting the edges of said nut and for preventing rotation of said nut so that when said wing screw is rotated said nut will engage the interior of said rod at opposite sides of said slot and clamp said rod into contact with the rod-engaging portion of said bracket.

A drapery hanger comprising a bracket having a substantially rectangular base with a hook-forming extension at one end and an opposed ledge at its opposite end whereby said bracket may be engaged over the upper end of the boxing of a Venetian blind with said ledge 1ocated beneath said boxing, an arm extending at right angles from one side edge of said base and having an upper edge portion substantially at right angles to the side of said base and a lower edge portion disposed at an angle to its upper edge, a substantially rectangular rodengaging portion of reduced size at the outer end of said arm, and with its upper and lower extremities curved to accommodate a hollow oval-shaped rod body having a slot along its length, said rod-engaging portion having an opening, a wing screw disposed in said opening, and a clamping nut engaged by said wing screw and having lateral offset portions of a size to t in said slot to prevent rotation of said nut, the body of said nut being disposed within said rod and engaging the sides of said rod adjacent to said slot.

3. A drapery hanger comprising a bracket having a substantially rectangular mounting portion with a hookforming extension at its upper end and a lateral ledgeforming extension at its lower end so that said bracket may be engaged over the upper portion of the boxing of a Venetian blind with said lateral ledge-forming extension located beneath said boxing, an arm disposed at right angles to said mounting portion and having a substantially horizontally disposed upper edge and an inclined lower edge, a substantially rectangular rod-engaging portion of reduced size mounted on the outer end of said arm and with its upper and lower ends curved to conform to the curvature of a hollow oval-shaped drapery rod having a slot along one side, said rod-engaging portion having an opening, a wing screw in -said opening, a clamping nut engagable by said wing screw, said clamping nut having lateral olset portions adapted to be disposed in the slot in said rod for preventing rotation of said nut so that when said wing screw is rotated said nut will engage the interior of said rod at opposite sides of said slot and clamp said rod to the rod-engaging portion of said bracket.

A drapery hanger comprising a bracket having a substantially rectangular mounting portion with a hookforming extension at its upper end and a lateral ledgeforming extension at itslower end so that said bracket may be engaged over the yupper portion of a support with said lateral ledge-forming extension located beneath said support, said bracket having an arm disposed substantially at right angles to said mounting portion, a substantially rectangular rod-engaging portion of reduced size mounted on the outer end of said arm, said rod-engaging portion being adapted to support a hollow oval-shaped drapery rod with a slot in one side, a wing screw mounted on said rod-engaging portion, a clamping nut adapted to be nonrotatably disposed in said rod and to be engaged by said wing screw so that said nut willl clamp and hold said rod.
