JAMES H. BURNETT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
SETTING FOR'RANGE-BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 287,231, dated October 23, 1883. l
Application filed J une .11, 1883. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JAMnsH. BURNETT, a citizenof the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain Improvement in Setting Range-Boilers, of which the following is aspecication.
lIhe object of my invention is to so construct a settingl for a range-boiler that said boiler can be readily applied to or removed from its place' without disturbing the brick-work of the range, and this object I attain in the manner hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure I, Sheet I, is a longitudinal section, partly in elevation, of sufficient of a range to illustrate my invention;` Figs. 2 and 3, transverse sections on the lines I 2 and 3 4, Fig. 1,
respectivelyyFig. 4, a perspective View of the boiler-supporting structure; and Figs. 5 and 6, Sheet 2, views illustrating modifications of my invention.
Ordinary range-boilers are set in the brickwork at the rear of the range, and when it becomes necessary to remove them for any purpose this brick-work must be torn awaya proceeding which is objectionable, both on account of its inconvenience and its expense. In order to overcome this objection, I provide a casing which is built into the brick-work of the range, and receives and retains the boiler, the latter, however, being readily detachable from the casing after first severing the pipeconnections.
A represents the casing, which in the present instance is in the form of a cylinder, in which the boiler B ts snugly, the casing being supported by the brick-work D at the rear of the re-place, and by the end walls, F and J, and iiue division-wall C, that portion of the casing which crosses the flue G at the rear of the oven K being cut away, so as to expose the boiler to the products of combustion as the latter ascend the line. Each end of the casing A is flanged and adapted to an opening in the end wall of the range, and to these anged ends are secured plates c, on removing either of which the boiler can be withdrawn endwise without disturbing the casing.
I have Vshown the casing with a removable plate at each end, because in some ranges the removal of the boiler can be effected best from one end wall and in other ranges from the opposite end wall. Vhere it is not essential to have a casing adapted for general use, however, this construction need not be adhered to, the casing being open atthat end only from which the boiler can most conveniently be removed in the range to which the casing is applied. 'Ihe flanged plate on that end of the casing which projects into the end wall F may be made of greater width than that shown, and' be used, the end of the boiler projecting from this casing into the flue G, and the brick-work at the rear of the oven K being supported upon a plate or bar secured to the casing of the oven, as shown in Fig. 6. The projection of the casing to the end wall F is preferred, however, as the structure is thus rendered more substantial.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of an open-ended casing, A, built into the brick-work of the range, with the boiler B, adapted to and carried by the said casing and removable from the end of the same, as set forth.
2. The combination of the boiler B with the casing A, carrying saidboiler, projecting into the opposite end walls of the range-structure, and constructed as described, whereby the removal of the boiler from either end of the casing is permitted, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name toy this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
